Will for the last 2 summers have spent 6-7 weeks in hospital then rehab at a nursing home. Had same vacation trip planed, not going there again Both times they called the family in. Has this second stay opened my eyes to the different ways the nursing homes operate. This home has needier people and has a lot more activity day and night. I would move but they have the best heart rehab in the area so I will stay. Will be here about a month then home and my cats.

Anyone had extended stay in a nursing home for rehab, if so how was your stay?

A guy who works for me some is single,,, and nobody at home to care for him after some of his surgeries. He has spent time in a few places like that. His comments reflect yours a bit. Sometimes,,, it's been good,,, and other times,,, not so. He's had it 3 times so far,, with an upcoming 4th trip planned when they do eye surgery.

A lot has to do with who's paying the bills. If it's a private facility,,, where you have excellent insurance & benefits,,, not too bad. If you pay for the best care out of your pocket,,, it costs more but the care reflects that as well. But,, if it's heavily funded by the taxpayers (government controlled,) then the care & such isn't what we'd hope to expect.

I hope your heart problems will be taken care of and I hope your recovery goes well. May your stay in rehab be short.

My dad had good care back in Wisconsin both at a assisted living home and finally a care facility as he had Alzheimer and died in 2003. His assisted living etc was just a fraction of what it would have been in California. In California I had a GF who`s mother was in one at the same time. Her husband was a surgeon himself and this was in Palm Springs. Yet she had to share her room, my dad had his own AND I believe his cost was about a third of what the GF`s mother`s was.
I moved from California to Utah in 2005. It`s a world of difference here. The other GF I spoke of had lived in Canada and came back to be by her family while her mother and a brother too were on their death beds. The brother was a biker thug that had done heavy prison time, got out and got in a accident that paralyzed him.
The GF didn't have insurance as she was Canadian. The biker brother was a welfare case. GF came down with cancer and I got to see the LA county hospital a lot. It was about like Andersonville during the civil war! Terrible! The mother, the brother and Cindy all died within three months or so. The brother died in the Los Angeles slum area convelsent hospital, rel real bad there. He had a partner in the same room that was giving a death rattle. I had taken Cindy to see him. While the guy was choking to death, "Mark" was trying to eat a tamale I had got him. He told the guy next to him, Ya mind? I am trying ta eat here, and the guy croaked a couple minuets later. His surgeon rich step father doctor refused to help him or Cindy at all.
Finally I paid for plane tickets for her daughters to fly down to take her back plus I bought them a vehicle to drive her back to Canada. She died about a month later.

My wife is on SS disability and had both knees replaced at the same time. After a few days in the hospital she was sent to a nursing home for two weeks of rehab. She had her own room and was worked like a piece of rental equipment and the food was good. Overall, it was an excellent experience with outstanding outcome. The only downside was the old guy across the hall kept trying to put the moves on her. Now, that was funny!
