On a new model Blackhawk, the trigger spring pin is held in place by the grips. If you remove the grips, it is held in place by a wish and a prayer. Throw a small piece of scotch tape over the ends (it will be covered by the grips) to hold it in place.
If you're going to remove the gripframe, use scotch tape on both ends of the hammer pin to hold that in place.

Unless you shoot without grips then the pin will never come out. I just checked one of mine and couldn't move it with a pair of pliers. You seem to be correcting a problem that doesn't exist.

You looked at one. Check a few more. Have you disassembled any new models?
It's not a matter of shooting it with the grips off. The problem is when trying to assemble the trigger spring and/or the grip frame and the pins drop out when both hands are occupied.

I've had a number of NM's and the pin is a loose fit in most of them. I usually put a bit of grease on one end to help it stay put during assembly.

Strangely enough it's hammer pins that I find need to be tapped out, the first time anyhow.

The ones I've seen aren't a tight fit. Any chance you're thinking about the grip locator pin? They are usually pretty tight. :)

I've got grips from Altamont on order for both my BH .41M and SW .22lr/m. Am I going to need to be leery of parts flying when I remove the plastic grips to install the nice grips? My first Ruger (or any) SA's and just got both so LOTS to learn.

I appreciated your post. Though it hasn't happened to me, I know to be aware of it next time I disassemble a new to me gun. Thank you!

No, it's the front pin that the trigger spring pivots on. Some fall out, some are okay when the spring is mounted not to fall out but they push out easily; not even a snug fit.
They are not under spring tension so they don't fly out to the next zip code. That's my experience with the 10 New Models I own.

Yeah the grip locator pin is TIGHT, the new models have roll pins!

Is anyone still making those adapters? I've only made one, and I made it out of a piece of 5/16" steel keystock. Never again . . . broke three little drill bits on the hole for that little pin in question. If I make any more, they'll be aluminum. ;)

I made two from aluminum. Then I tried a 22 LR case backed up by that front trigger spring pin. I can't count how many friends have used that, some for years now. But for my projects I started grafting by silver soldering old model sears to the top of NM triggers to use the NM trigger spring. The after market adapter triggers are nice, I bought one for $39 from Clements before he retired. But now the prices are crazy.

Yes, assemble the trigger, trigger return spring in the 22 case and that grip pin into the grip frame, then install the assembly to the gun. And then install the trigger screw thru the frame and trigger. The base of the hammer captures the 22 case from the top and keeps it in place.

Or you can install the trigger in the gun first like usual, and you can even epoxy the 22 case in place before installing the grip frame. Gluing the case in place just makes it slightly simpler to install the grip frame (just like an OM grip frame) but it's not necessary.
