Cary C: Wow, relax. I noticed you balked at watching TV on your computer. I sure remember when I was young and had to buy my own TV it had a 19 inch screen and was huge. I had to buy it on a rent to own kind of thing because it was $400 and that was in 1980. I think I could live on a 19 inch HD screen now for a couple hundred dollars. Wow, how soon we forget what we had and what we have now. Again, relax, it is not something to get upset about. It is a pastime, like baseball, football, pool, etc.. It is supposed to relax, enjoy and sometimes participate in. Don't sweat the small stuff.

Karl

I think you're assuming that everyone has a lap top computer which they could open up while sitting in their recliner chair. I don't have one. Never had the need for one or the urge to buy one.

Think that might make a difference in watching a movie on a computer? Why does everyone assume I'm so upset because someone suggested that I watch a movie on my computer and I said, no thanks? How in the world does that translate to me being upset?

Hey, how do you know how I surf? I am sitting in my Lazy Boy right now. I was just kidding you Cary except about the 19" TV. I only have a laptop, don't own anything else. No need for me, I only use my computer to surf and post. Mechanics don't need much more  .

To the topic, the DVR is the greatest invention since the pop up toaster. We record all of our favorite programs and then watch them later, zoom through the commercials. When I see an ad about a program I might like I search it and record it. If I don't like it, one button makes it go away instantly.

Another commercial that really bugs me is the NetZero commercial where the chick says "You have the right to the internet".

Maybe I missed it, is that right listed in the bill of rights or the constitution?

Sure it is. Right next to the separation of church and state.

Don't forget the "RIGHT"to abort your unborn child.

We are seriously considering dropping our FIOS tv and keeping ONLY the FIOS internet connection; You PAY for far too many channels that you will NEVER watch to get only the few that have a program you like now and then. We have a set up called "APPLE TV" which hooked up to the internet allows you to surf a whole load of networks for free and with a small fee, you can also connect to HULU and NetFlix; I don't know the cost (Ashley handles that stuff), I think the box was around $100 and YOU own it, no fees. We should save OVER $100 a month in cable fees.

Do you need a wifi capable TV to use it? Or can it be hardwired right to the TV? The reason I'm asking is that my TV has no HDMI in connection on it.

I've been trying to figure out how to get Netflix movies streamed on my TV. I can do it with an HDMI converter from my computer and using RCA connector cables to the TV.

The trouble is that when the computer desk top is on the TV, it's so hard to read anything or distinguish one icon from another one. Plus when the desktop screen goes to the TV it does not show on my computer screen so I can't experiment with any different resolutions.

It use to be that Commercials took about 4 or 5 minutes of the programming time,; NOW they use up over 10+ minutes out of every half hour and are MULTIPLE brain numbing over and over repeats with an ANNOYING THUMP THUMP THUMP THUMP drumbeat to all of them. THUMP THUMP THUMP THUMP.

Yeah! That too!

Cary: You need to buy a monitor that will use a HDMI cable. I got into the HDTV early, I mean really early. HDMI was not even out yet. Now I am starting to lose channels due to HDMI protection. I new it would happen sooner or later but it is now later. I have a rear projection HDTV and it does not have a HDMI connection port. I either put up with the lack of such or I have to use RCA cables which of course puts you HD television back to the old days. I will do it when they eliminate a channel I want to watch. So far it is not a problem.

I hate those long commercials, too!

Now, I just record it and fast forward through the commercials. Same thing during football season. I try and avoid hearing who won or lost the game in question and just record it and skip the commercials.

Pardon me, but you is askin the person which is lucky to be able to answer calls on her cell phone, turn on the TV, turn on her laptop and shut off her fancy alarm clock in the mornin.

Yeah, I don't have a ten year old kid to do these things either.

Wow, Cary responds to BS but not to the subject he originally posted about. Do you not want an answer? A solution?

I don't quite get what you mean. I originally posted about TV commercials. Do you have some kind of answer for them?

I watch streaming Netflix on a 24" 1080p HD monitor connected to a PC. It looks pretty good but not DVD quality. I just bought a new tv and blu ray player and the 5.1 goes through a Yamaha receiver. It's pretty enjoyable. TV reception is via antenna.

Yeah, I agree. Watching 20 commercials in one shot started to make the veins in my head go THUMP THUMP THUMP. I don't think I've ever seen that many in one commercial break before.
Agreed! Then they show the SAME ONE over again, during the SAME commercial break. I really do not need a 'reverse mortgage' nor anything that AARP indorses. I have the car insurance I want. I have COPD and my DOCTOR tells me what medicine to take/use. AAAAARGH!!!

how many stinken insurance commercials can they jam in there?

Here in Florida, we seem to be getting ALL the Personal Injury Lawyer ads. Had an accident, look us up for a BIG pay off <OVER AND OVER AND OVER>. Those get alternated wit, "If you have been taking THIS medicine and your out gassing stinks (okay, use your imagination) call us because we have a billion dollar settlement. Lately, I would SWEAR that they are reading those inserts you get with every Med that lists ALL the possible negative things that can happen with the med (AS REQUIRED by Law) and then offering to SUE if you have "suffered" any of those.
I think its WAY past time to shut down those crooks and institute some major tort reform.

we get them too, the GM recall is the newest one.
