Tuning the GP100

I am the very happy owner of a Wiley Clapp Talo gp100. I shoot it almost as well as my tuned S&W 3" mod. 65which has had a trigger job. Any thoughts on whether a trigger job would be worth the effort?

On another forum, I ask a sorta similar question. The answer I got was"shoot several hundred rounds, kinda break it in, then if you think it needs a little help, go for it". Seems applicable here, too.

If the engine builder for your new custom hot rod told you he was going to leave the main bearings and cylinders with a rough scored finish and it would smooth itself out in a couple thousand miles of running, would that sound like a reasonable approach to you?

Eventually the rough surfaces will wear smooth but trigger creep and the overly heavy springs won't change. If it's in the budget get a trigger job done or do it yourself, just springs will make a vast improvement.

Nope, the rough surfaces will grind into each other causing seriously advanced wear and
eventual failure of function. Talk to any mechanic or machinist for his opinion on this.
Best case scenario is to have high friction areas massaged to have as smooth an interface as possible from day one.
If the gun is brand new OTB I may dry fire it 50-100 times to highlight some areas of friction to address, such as rubbing on the sides of the hammer or trigger so when I shim the action I can attempt to cure these areas of rubbing and high friction.

I ordered the Wolff spring kit from Midway. The installation was more of an "gun familairzation class" (I think everyone should know how to disassemble/reassemble a Ruger pistol). The hammer and trigger spring replacement procedures are well documented in YouTube videos and easy to perform.

The results is a noteable improvement in trigger pull. The springs are easily identified in their individual spring packages.

Rough surfaces do wear in, that's why guns smooth up with use, I've built many a race engine my friend so you don't want to go there. 18436572. 2.0, 2.1, 2.2. 2.45, 3.25, 3.48. Sound familiar.
