One of my fave things about living inSparks, NV is sometime in late autumn or winter large tumbleweeds cutloose by the winds and roll almost anywhere in town. Today, I went toScheels sporting goods to get some steps in and as I was trying topark this tumbleweed rolled passed me, although this one looked morelike a mushroom cap than the usual round ones. I have seentumbleweeds roll down various streets around town and inevitably carssmash them to small pieces. Once on N. McCarran Bl, a majorthorofare, a tumbleweed about the size of a Volkswagen was rollingdown the street when...you guessed it...a Volkswagen Bug smasheddirectly into it, scattering the weed all over the place. It was anawesome sight. It was very windy today, so I am sure there wereothers out rolling down various streets.
This tumbleweed also brought to mind, the Sons of the Pioneers, with and without Roy, singing the song,Tumblin' tumbleweeds.

if your Scheels Is like the Scheels here in DFW, the parking lot couldn’t be any bigger.

One trick I use to get extra steps is park all the way on the outside edge of the lot. Even at the grocery store. I can get 1,500 steps in just at the grocery store.

I never thought about parking far away from any business I go to, in order to get some extra steps in. During the winters in Sparks/Reno it gets very windy/cold/rainy/snowy, etc. so hopefully, I will remember when it warms up. Thanks for the tip.
Besides Scheels, I go to the Meadowood Mall and walk around inside, hugging the walls on my right. I get lots of steps that way during the winter.
I do go to grocery stores; and Costco once a month and get my steps in, but I also end up spending $$$ :((n)

I ALWAYS park a long way from the door of the store, That's where the trees and shady parking places are located and I have DUKE dog riding with me.
And the bonus is, nobody will door ding your car.

Although more often than not, I'll park all the way out, and someone will park right next to me. Happened at Wal Mart about a week ago. After I drove away, I wondered if they tried to see if my car was locked. So theft can be an issue sometimes.

Two things I think of when I think of tumbleweeds...

When I was very young, I tried catching a tumbleweed. Wrong. I ended up covered in tiny little thorns, Good lesson.

And one time, @Heliman Dave and I were traveling back from Eastern Oregon on I-84. There was a little wind storm happening, and the highway became completely covered with tumbleweeds for miles. We actually could not see the pavement. 😲

Being from MI we don't get tumbleweeds, but on test trips to AZ I got to see them. For anyone that hasn't seen them, they are just like cartoons show them. 😄

Also as stated they just blow up when a car hits them. Especially when the car is cruising about 100 mph on a test track. POOF!

Someone mentioned tumbleweeds can cause vehicles with automatic breaking systems to malfunction. So be careful out there.

When I was a kid my aunt and uncle brought one home from a road trip. A present for my sister and I. Lol.

We used to get them on our property in Central Oregon. We always saved them for the burn pile- they make a great starter under a pile of leaves. They go off sorta like a Christmas tree- poof!

Maybe but I was in a totally empty campground (the kind that the road goes in a big loop and camping spots are strung out along it) and picked a place about 1/2 way around. No sooner than I stopped and started to set up another vehicle drives up to the next spot adjacent to mine and starts to set up. We knocked down our setup and drove 2/3s the way around and re-set up. I suspect they might have been offened......I hope.
