Trucker told the cop he was speeding on a wet road and was on his cell phone. Cop said '... police officers are allowed to use technology ...' :roll: It gets better.

My son is LEO.
I PREACH to him that anything he does is always being recorded. And even if it isn't he needs to act as if it is being recorded & aired on the 6pm news. I say that if that happens, he'll be judged by the viewers of the media & the full story will not get broadcast.
I tell him to do his job that way & he'll never have an issue.

Nowadays,,, there are cameras everywhere, and many things are caught on tape that help prove guilt or innocence. Just look at the different types of cameras available now for different purposes.
Add in the fact that all newer autos have a "little black box" that records your actions. Insurance companies are now using them to prove or disprove claims. These boxes record speeds & actions a driver takes.
In this case,,, the Trooper was caught, he realized it, and knew if it got pushed into court, he'd lose. He wasn't on a call, (he admitted he was going to HQ,) He was speeding, (he admitted this when he returned,) He says he didn't recall being on the phone,,, (but a cell phone records dates & times when they are used.)
One comment by the Trooper to the trucker was "did you have me on radar?" (not the exact quote,, but it was what he asked the trucker.) In court, a trucker would qualify as an "expert driver, capable of judging speed." The speed limit was 70, the trucker was going 65, and he saw how fast the Trooper passed him.

All in all, this Trooper got caught doing something just about every cop does often, speeding, talking on the cell phone.
The trucker was able to pull him, and get him to stop this behavior.
I commend the Trooper for being a professional, and admitting his mistake, and by being polite & giving the guy a clean inspection report.
I also think the trucker did the right thing by stopping him & trying to be polite in explaining his position & why he used his horn.

Now I wonder if this video goes viral,,, will it affect the Trooper& his job?

Reminds me of the time I got a seat belt ticket from an officer who wasn't wearing his seat belt.....

When I pointed out his non use of said belt I was thus informed "they" do not have to wear said belt because they may need to exit the car quickly !!!

The next ticket for the same violation I sat and watched 10 MOTORCYCLISTS ride by with no helmets, in shorts, sunglasses, and flip flops as the kind officer wrote me the ticket.... BUT not wearing my seat belt in a pickup got me another $150 no point ticket :lol: :lol: :lol:

Well I don't like seat belts so I guess it costs me about $50 a year average to take my chances....RR

In NY you can get a ticket for "distracted driving" by having any mobile electronic device up front. Cell phone, GPS, CB radio, one could argue even your car stereo. Yet the front seat of a modern police cruiser looks like the space shuttle. The guys who went to the moon didn't have this much tech.

Yes, when you go to the police academy your brain is rewired, your genetic make up is changed and your brain functions are now far superior. You can't get distracted. :roll:

Some years ago I followed a local County Police officer to the City office and confronted him about his 'speeding'. He was exceeding the 35 MPH by a BUNCH through a school area. I jumped to 40 for a very short time and he was still pulling away from me. When I confronted him I asked "Are you on a call?" He replied that he wasn't. I then asked him why he could exceed the posted limit and it was OK but I would get ticketed if I did? He said to me; "I didn't realize I was going that fast." I then said to him "Have you ever heard that from anyone you ever stopped; and gave them a speeding ticket nonetheless?" I told "Might like to watch your speed; particularly through a school area." I then got back in my car and left.

Seat belts are a good thing but what gripes the begeebers out of me is the governments need to mandate my behavior....

I really like the point made that we common citizens are now forbidden from using any device while driving and the government employees (LEO's) have all kinds of distracting equipment they use while driving.

One of the things that I learned when I first got on the job in academy was that you are just as good as everyone else and when dealing with the general public the unwritten rule is that you are no better than anyone else and they are no better than you. (Of course after ten years of dealing with some people I have a slight issue with some of that but....) What that was meant to tell us was that when you are out there where you can been seen, how you act is important. We were all told not to act stupidly or do something that you don't want seen. We were told ethics means doing the right thing while no one is watching. Of course now everyone is watching, there are phones with cameras everywhere in addition to the real cameras everywhere else. My wife has asked me why cops get to talk on their cell phones while driving, get to drive as fast as they want and on some back road tailgate the car in front of them. I tell her the same thing everytime, because the line of "us versus them" keeps getting blurred with some of the new training. A lot of the new officers I have seen in the last two years or so are so arrogant, so pius, that they don't even want to listen to their training officers or guys who have been on the job. More than one got bounced off the job because they were told to cut it out and then canned because they were going to get their butt handed to them, and not necessarily from the inmates or general public. I used to love watching them walk into a housing unit and start screaming at 42 inmates and the inmates later telling me that the only reason they didn't slap the crap out of this person is because it was my unit and they didn't want me to have to do paperwork all night. I know a couple new officers when they are dealing with the general public have referred to people in the open as scumbags and whatever other names they can come up with. These are not the inmates, these are just people in general. I know one got in trouble because he was overheard calling a man who just there to ask a question about bail who happened to be of Hispanic ethnicity something not exactly racially sensitive these days. The public is watching and many of them are getting really tired of the "do as I say and not as I do" attitude from everyone from politicians to cops, and they're using video and attorneys to back it up.

IIRC approx half of all LEO killed in the line of duty are killed in "accidents" while driving their duty vehicle.
