To grind....

....or not to grind. That is the question. I really like my Ruger American Compact 9mm, but there is one thing that bugs me. When I reach for the safety the base of my thumb wants to deflect because of the tight radius on the rear of the grip. I want to sand and buff off the corners where the > is pointing. Not really worried about ruining resale value. Any reason not to?

I am always considering resale so I would not. If that is not a concern, go for it.

Therein lies the conundrum. If I don't "fix" it, it will likely be sold. I like the way the gun fits the hand and the trigger is more than acceptable, but I like to ride the safety and it isn't comfortable to do so as it is.

It's a disposable poly frame pistol, I say go for it.

Well just to poke at you (forgive me) the real problem is the Safety ...
I think I have a semi-auto pistol somewhere in my inventory that has one of those on it.
I guess the answer is go ahead and customize the gun... hopefully it will make it " mo bedder "

I grew up with 1911's and spent a good bit of time with one in the Army. The safety is part of my genetics. It is off and ready before the gun clears "leather". There are many reasons I prefer a manual safety on a pistol that I won't go into now. It is basically a "thumb rest" when I shoot.

You are absolutely correct when it comes to Single Action Only semi-autos... in fact I have one and it for sure needs a Safety on it. (Sig P226 Legion in SAO) And it seems I was wrong.. I just checked my data-base and it seems I actually technically have 6 semi-auto pistols with safeties..

I say do what you need to do to make it comfortable. If you do a clean job of it, no one will notice anyway.

I agree with the rest, but I'd suggest doing your mod all the way around, not just where the arrow points. It would look more symmetrical and visually balanced/blended in than just doing that one corner.

I might just take a trip to the local fun store and see what they have to offer. It's been a while since I handled some new pistols. At the time I bought the American Compact it had the best trigger of all in that group and fit the hand really well. It wasn't until I got it home and played with it some more that I noticed the issue. It isn't something I carry often due to the size, but it is in my GTFO pile.

Everybody has their on view of things... I for years had a Walther PPK and you had to be real careful not to get the top of your hand scraped when you shot it. Sold it to a guy from my church and two weeks later one Sunday morning he's showing me and bragging about the cut on the top of his hand.

Your pistol, your hand, grind. If you do sell it tell the buyer/dealer what you did and why. The average person probably wouldn't notice the "adjustment".

It might help the resale value if the gun feels good in the buyers hand. I modified my Glocks to fit better and aim better.

I’d do it also. Just do it in small increment’s and keep checking if you reached point you want. Dont want to take off too much
