yesterday and today, recieved a couple strange emails, didn't read through, just deleted when I saw a demand for $1000 bitcoin or they would send video of me in compromising situations to all my facebook freinds.

a quick google says this scam is related to recent data breach since one of my passwords was in the email.

Luckly that password was to an account that I closed a few months ago, but now to go and change the others

this is the first I have had and it makes me mad, if face to face, my actions would be extreme predujice!

Social Security contacted me via telephone yesterday (Thursday) and said that there was unusual activity on my account. I needed to push 1 to speak to a person to help with the problem. Of course I immediately complied with their request. (sarcasm font now off)
This is one they hadn't planned on, they got a Police Captain: https://www.yahoo.com/news/police-officer-shuts-down-phone-190707004.html

I think I would not do much in changing all others, unless the password itself is
used in/on other sign-ons. I use variations on one that has been deleted from
various data bases about thirty years now. As I say, it is the base for mine and I
mix it with three others.

I agree that any/all of your other sign-ons that use the password in that account
should be changed quickly.

:D I just went and looked, and I only have thirty-seven different passwords.

Some folks would be elated, if their prowess got posted on social media... ;) .

.

A friend of mine received 3 phone calls from Social Security in one day about ''discrepancies in his account. One of which while we were having breakfast. He just replied to the caller ''NO $HIT" and hung up! Love guys with a sense of humor.

Believe it or not sometimes those calls are real. No not the compromising situations ones but say about Medicare. Just got a call from our provider confirming that everything is set. Nice to know some folks will call just to keep you informed and not try to sell you something.

Got that several times at work referring to a very old password. However, my work e-mail ([email protected]) has a censoring firewall, so even if I did it, it would be reported to my IT branch, then
to my supervisor. I reported it and ignored them thereafter (at IT's direction)

I have just one question. Is there a video of you in compromising situations?

No Facebook, Twitter, or any of the like for me either. :x

I think I would be tempted to say
"Really?
Then please send me the url once you have."
