Why have I not heard of these until I brought one home today and are they collectable?

Not ALL but some say the huge majority of guns Ruger produced in 1976 got the "200th year" roll mark. Some people collect them.

As noted, most firearms, (all models,) produced by Ruger 1976 carry the Liberty rollmark. The only way any are collectable are if they are NIB or very limited production. And then, they often only bring a smaller premium. Unless rare in production numbers.
