The Good Ole Days

An old gentleman at my church, now deceased, told me of going to an air show in Ripley, Tennessee when he was young. There was a biplane flyover and over the field, a daredevil parachuted from that plane, to the wonderment of the crowd.

After the plane landed, this man, Reese Williams was his name, approached the pilot and asked if he could jump out of the airplane with a parachute.

The pilot grinned at said, "Yes Sir. Will cost you $5.00"

Reese told me he had never seen $5.00 all at one time in his life, and went away sorrowing, but determined to make a parachute jump. He heard that the Army was forming a parachute corps where you could jump out of airplanes free. So he joined.

He was among the first paratroopers, and jumped into France after D-Day, and made six jumps in Europe during WW II, though he told me none were "combat jumps."

He later became our maintainence man at church, and only after reaching age eighty-five did our church insist he no longer change light bulbs in the sanctuary.

There is nothing to compare to flying in a bi-plane.

You got that right. :D Yesterday Grandson mounted his GoPro to the Two Winger.
A little trip down the Brazos.

OPPPPS I forgot to keep the Blue side up

Now for the scary part. Well we had to open the hangar door all the way to put it away. So it was a good flight. :D :D
