The difference between common sense and “common scents”!

I saw that on the TV last night. IDK, the dude is gonna get sent up the river and maybe thought a fathers day shirt might soften the blow?

Think the Judge is a bit overboard 🤷‍♂️

Well it's not a Father's Day shirt and the robes make the wearer omnipotent in that setting.

A guy here showed up for some minor court appearance wearing a wife beater, jean shorts and flip flops. Judge had the sheriffs dept put him in a holding cell at 10 am and rescheduled his time for 4 pm that same day.

Just another example of the lack of respect for the justice system. A court appearance is a serious thing to have happen to anyone,, for anything. Dress appropriately, be polite, and do not pizz off the judge.

Did you read the shirt?

I read the "expected" link and it says...

1. A business suit;
2. A dress;
3. A skirt with a blouse or sweater or tailored slacks with a professional blouse; or
4. A sport coat with dress slacks, a collared dress shirt, and a tie.

But says nothing about appropriate gender for clothing noted :-)

While I believe it is wise to show respect for the court, and hopefully get the best possible outcome.

They have no right to mandate any dress code. They work for us,

First impressions make a difference... I've learned that over the years.... I was telling a customer who is a retired lawyer my 'in court story' from 1979 and in the telling I actually explained to him my body language while I spoke to the judge. My point only being was I not only dressed for the occasion but I knew how to show respect for the court with how I spoke and acted.

I went to court with my son when he got a traffic ticket and watched just what you are saying.
The County Sheriff brought in a guy dressed in County stripes with mismatched deck shoes and a fine array of stainless steel shackles. The idiot in front of the Judge had a smirk on his face and the Judge asked him what he found so funny...
The guy said "Alla this bull man"....
The gavel went BANG and the Judge said
Bring him back in 6 months and let's see if his attitude improves...

I've only had to stand in front of a judge once. I made it a point not to annoy them anymore than I already had.

Actually they do. A judge in his own court room has power over everyone there. Legally he's pretty powerful.If you don't like it you can appeal. He can have anyone in the room arrested, held, returned etc. All within limits of course. But the limits are pretty broad. I've offered to hold attorneys in contempt for appearing in my court without jacket and tie. The accused not so much. Sometimes they don't know better. But if they're not worried about impressing the judge they usually suceed!

I figured they were within their legal rights, but that doesn't make it right. They work for us.

Again only a fool would show disrespect to the court if he expects a positive outcome. But mandating a dress code for citizens just seems like an over reach.

A dress code for attorneys I can understand. The attorney has chosen to do business there and has agreed to the terms. Obviously direct employees would be expected to adhere to a dress code. Most employees have a dress code.

I don't know that there should be a 'dress code: for defendants, but common sense should dictate not dressing like a bum (unless of course you are). Of course there is always going to be the "wa chew lookin at?" type
