Well, we've had a tradition for some years now where Miss Penny & I,, along with our oldest & his fiance, go to my DIL's parents house & we all enjoy a dinner. Add in a few other family members & a guy we call family,, & it's usually 12-14 of us.
So, with us,, it's usually at their house for Thanksgiving,, and they do Christmas at our house.
This evening,, sitting at the dinner table,, listening to the chatter,, friendly banter &
"picking on each other," (Nobody is spared,,) the laughter,, and everything in general,, I had to just stop, look & listen for a few moments.
We have been blessed for sure. The elder, Jim,, is a prostrate cancer survivor of about 3 years. His wife,, Karen,, a year ago,, was almost set for her mastectomy (Dec 2nd,) surgery,, while their daughter,, (my DIL,) was undergoing treatment for her breast cancer. Mom & daughter having it at the same time was tough. Last year,, we didn't do the family dinner because of all this.
Today,,, much different.
Karen is doing great,, DIL is done with chemo & radiation & most of her follow-up treatments. In fact,, she cooked much of the dinner today.
So,, it truly was a day of giving Thanks for all of us.
And the icing on the cake is it's FUN. We are all "gun & freedom folks." We all believe the same. Well, there is one cousin who's liberal & lost so to speak, but he's way outnumbered.
I'm truly blessed to have such great inlaws as the Chambers family.
Oh, and I'll have a surprise soon to post about my youngest son's FIL. As soon as I can scan & get the pics posted,, I'll have a post about him.
