Countin' my blessings......

We had a very deep snow here Friday, over 7" deep. Schools were closed and businesses shut down. And, since the ground wasn't frozen, roads remained fairly clear.

Back in my good times after retirement, when we awoke to see snow on the ground, we would call my sister, Thelma. She would answer the 'phone with, "I'll be ready in five minutes." We would pick her up and drive to one or more parks. We would drive around on the snowy roads, stop and make photos, mabe ctch a glimpse of some deer or see a coyote dashing across a field. Once ir twice we saw bald eagles. Then we would have lunch someplace, often sitting in front of the fireplace at a Cracker Barrel. The Jeep wold be hevy with compacted snow in the wheel wells.


Snow, and I had no one to share it with.

Nice memories! I went out looking for a wolf today and seen a bald eagle, a bunch of mule deer, whitetail and even a couple moose. Plenty of snow here!

Miss Penny likes to look at snow as long as she is warm, in her house & doesn't have to get out in it. We only had a few inches here,, and we've been inside for a few days now.

I've been reloading,, swaging bullets, tinkering in my gun room etc. Gotta love such times!

I just became envious of snow bound places. I sometimes struggle to find the time to do reloading and such. The weather here tends to keep us out and about.

Just a few days before the snow in my area...my back yard...a few days later, during the height of the storm, my next door neighbor dropped this boy in his tracks with a crossbow. 2 days before the legal end-of-season...I'm thinkin venison chili sounds about right

Do you have any handy Grand/Great Grandchildren handy to make memories with? I spent a few hours out with the Granddaughter the other day. I'm just hoping to make it to long term memories for her.

I tend to envy those whose grandchildren/great grand children are near. Mine are in distant places. And even so, they are far too "grown up" to make memories with Grandpa Memphis. One great grand daughter is an Army veteran and a nurse in a hospital in Denver. My "visits" are confined to my home made DVDs.

What's stopping you from making the rounds visiting them? I know you have memories there but there could be a few new ones to work in while you can.

Wonderful story. My day yesterday went just as well. We hadn't been to camp since November and had some snow and heavy winds in recent weeks, so we drove down there to check things out.

My son has been ill recently, so he went along too. We did some hiking and my son said he enjoyed the day so much. Lunch at our favorite country restaurant was also good.

We had slightly less than a foot of snow, and I was anxious to test out my new AWD car. She went up the driveway like a breeze.

The only thing that confused me about your post was the "heavy" 7 inches of snow. We don't consider anything heavy until it gets above 7 FEET.
