Texting drivers should be treated like drunk drivers when they injure or kill someone. It should be vehicular assault or manslaughter. 9 driving while intoxicated convictions with the last one being 0.267 BAC is more than enough chances. However some people never learn

July 18, 1995 a fifth time DUI driver (third time felony DUI with critical injuries) killed my friend's wife leaving him a widower and a 20 month old daughter motherless. He got 12 years and served every day of it.

I have no mercy when it comes to impaired drivers. Life sentence? Good!

I agree that an idiot who drinks, and then gets behind the wheel of a vehicle, should be severely punished. Especially when there are injuries or death involved.
Adults, who drink, then drive have been raised to KNOW what can happen. It's all around us daily. Saying they are "unlucky" or "not addicted to alcohol," or any other stupid excuse,, does NOT preclude the fact that you KNOW it's wrong, you KNOW you are putting people in danger, and most importantly,, you (the drunk driver) CHOOSE to drink then drive.

Too bad it took so long to get this idiot off the road & out of circulation.

He'd done 4 prison for DUI sentences already.

Parker County District Attorney Jeff Swain said that Stanford was treated as a "habitual offender" because he had previously served four prison sentences for felony DWI offenses, the Star-Telegram story said.

Day after my wedding, a drunk driver driving the wrong was on the freeway killed my uncle and critically injured 3 others (That was my uncle I've posted elsewhere with Micky Thompson's crew). He posted bail and left for Mexico (illegal immigrant). Only good thing was that his friend posted his house as collateral, so hopefully he lost it!

I have no sympathy for illegals who break our law or for drunk drivers!

On the news a couple of days ago- A drunk driver in South Carolina driving 3x the posted speed limit struck the golf cart a just married couple and two others were riding in as they were leaving the beachside ceremony. The bride was killed, groom and two others critically injured.

I fully understand what you went through. My son died after 10 months in a coma after he was hit head on while on his motorcycle by a texting driver. All the driver was charged with was failure to yield the right of way. Since then I have seen this cretin still text and drive. Sometimes there is no justice in this world

I believe the drunk driving laws in Germany are much more severe than here. Not sure they’d work here, but trying something like them would probably be better than keeping the status quo.
Driving is serious business, and I wish all drivers would treat it as such.
So sorry to hear of the losses some of you have suffered.

just spent 3 weeks renting a house on that road and there is no excuse for what happened there.... it is a beach road with a lot of people traveling in rented golf carts as well as folks walking and biking on the road.... the posted speed limit for the entire town (Folly Beach) is 25mph and it was not unusual to see some idiot fly by at better than 50.
