hello everyone, im new here. im from central il.
I just bought a ruger 4in gp100 awhile back, I was wanting to know if it can handle the ted nugent 357 rounds?
they are 1560 fps @ 858 ft pounds. 158 grain. I want to use them for deer hunting this year but wanted to make sure it wasn't to much for the gun before I practice with them. thank you

Ted Nugent has his name on a line of ammo? Don

As a postscript, just looked it up. Wonder who makes the ammo for him?

Welcome ...and the GP100 is a great D/A revolver (if not the best) ..and can handle any commercial 357 round ...

Over built tank..is what it is....

Whadya mean? It's Uncle Ted - he probably loads them personally!
If Ted himself is loading the ammo, you can count me out. I am a skeptic by nature and when it come to loading ammo, I think there is plenty of evidence that 'ole Ted ain't all there.

That's roughly equivalent to the original .357 loads. No problem.

Not intending this to be an attack but I've always read/understood that there was a lot of hype about the velocity figures of the early .357 ammo. Don

They're not just hype, I've personally fired old 357 loads and they are much, much hotter than todays watered down lawyer safe loads. Also seen chrono figures supporting those velocities, 158's in the 1400's from a 6".

Buffalo Bore 158gr JHPs clock 1592 out of my GP100. There's no question we now have powders that can develop higher velocities at similar pressures or the same velocity at lower pressures than was available in the early days of the .357. Don

Suggest strongly that you, are in that "calling the kettle black" syndrome...........In a fair firefight or any kind of FF, I would swiftly go over to Ted............You have proven time and time again that Bizarre is not just a small church supper and baked goods sale........Don' t go down the spelling trail, I do know the difference............It is an "object lesson" for your benefit....... 8)

Don't quote me but I think Pierce ammo here in Buffalo NY makes it

I am sure you would have lots of company but that doesn't change the fact that Ted ain't all there and I sure as heck would not trust him, or anyone else for that matter, to load my ammo. :D

Howdy Sawlog and welcome from GA! For on game performance try the hardcast in the 180 grains mentioned by Steveodtw and Rumrunner or the Corbon 200 grain hardcast at 1150 fps. You don't need that much velocity and humph with a large flat hardcast. Shoot them at the top of the shoulder and most will drop in their tracks and you can still eat the shoulders. Hardcasts do not bloodshot meat like high velocity rounds. These guys on here have a world of valuable knowledge and experience and are willing to share. Most will tell you with the right bullet 11 to 1200 fps with a big flat fat bullet will blow a hole through most anything. Unless you hit the spine or brain blood loss to the brain and not tissue damage is what kills. The flatpoint hardcast will make a big hole that cuts and lets air in and blood out.

thank you for all the info and welcomes. I really like my new gp100, ive always liked rugers. I had a 454 redhawk for years, just cost to much to shoot and not very practical for around here. it was between a smith 686 and the ruger gp100. im happy with my choice.

Welcome to the forum. The GP-100 with the right ammo is good for 90% of North American game. I still have seller's remorse for letting mine go!
