Sham22, putting rounds through a HOT barrel wears it out at a much faster rate than shooting through a cold/warm barrel. That's why most of us bring a few different firearms to the range and move from one to another, allowing them to cool off before firing again. You can speed up the cooling process by buying a bore snake of the correct .38/9mm size, putting a LITTLE bit of Breakfree CLP on it, sticking it in a large ziploc bag, and putting it in the ice of a cooler along with your soft drinks. After a mag or two, let the top of the cold snake sit in your bore for a couple of minutes, move it to the centre for a couple, then to the end for a couple of minutes. It'll clean out your bore and cool it down quickly, while you shoot a mag from your carbine. :-) You should be able to wrap your bare hand around a gun barrel and hold it there for a few secs, if you intend to fire that gun...
