If I may ask, what happened to the barrel? I ask because I own one.

I asked Google if the use the same barrels.

Yes, the original Ruger LCP and the LCP II use the same length barrel (2.75 inches) and have very similar overall dimensions, but the LCP II has internal upgrades like a better trigger and slide-lock feature, though parts like the barrel are interchangeable between models, notes r/ruger users on Reddit and Vedder Holsters. While the barrels are the same length, the LCP II is a different gun with improved ergonomics and trigger, making it distinct despite sharing the same barrel length and magazine compatibility.
Key Similarities:
Barrel Length: Both have a 2.75-inch barrel.
Magazines: They use compatible 6-round magazines.
Disassembly: Both disassemble similarly with a single pin.
Key Differences (LCP II):
Trigger: Improved, crisper trigger with a Glock-style safety.
Slide Stop: LCP II locks the slide back when empty, a feature absent in the original LCP.
Grip/Feel: Slightly thicker grip, better purchase.
In essence, they share core dimensions and parts like the barrel and mags, but the LCP II offers significant internal upgrades over the original.

i don’t understand why a barrel has to be fitted it’s a drop in part
They want to make sure it’s safe and correct any other mods that may have been done.
If they’ll fix it for free you’re money ahead.

You’ve played the smart move by getting in line. Now just don’t depend on it. Keep your feelers out elsewhere. That barrel might find its way to you through a different path long before 2026 rolls around.

Send in the LCP II, Ruger will replace any worn part or up graded part. No big deal, you'll have in back in your hands within 3 weeks. The gun will be sent to NC for repair, those folks are top notch. You botched up the barrel trying to fix a problem that probably wasn't even barrel related. I notice you live in Kommefornia you may need to ship from a FFL. For warranty fixes Ruger will email you a shipping paid label.

I thought of one other option I have to bypass FFL go into sportsman warehouse where I purchased it see if they will send it back I think they do I will check

OpticsPlanet is legit big player with huge inventory, but their Achilles heel is backorders from hell.

Real world from tons of guys including me

They’ll let you backorder forever without charging nice, but June 2026 estimates are optimistic stuff often slips months years or gets canceled quietly.

Customer service is hit or miss some get quick updates, others chase for weeks.

Prices are usually killer when in stock, free shipping over $49 helps.

If it’s a hard to find barrel and you’re not in a rush, lock in the backorder worst case you cancel later if it drags too long. I’ve scored rare items this way but also waited 18 months on one that never came.

Solid company overall, just temper expectations on timelines. You’re good grabbing the spot in line.
