Well,,, apparently my written complaints to the FCC about unsolicited (telemarketer) calls may pay off.
Apparently,,, there is a company that has been busted,,, and a class action lawsuit settlement,,,, of which my phone number was one of the many "hit" by the telemarketers. Apparently,,, I may be in for a slice of the settlement pie. Up to $900 apparently! It may take a while,,, as we have to file a reply,,, and then once awarded,,, I'll get a check.

It helps to complain politely to the right people. In this case,,, the FCC.

Now,,, maybe they can get the other 10,000 telemarketers out there.

Just be careful if you receive a call or a letter saying that they are ready to send you the $900, but first you need to send them a $50 processing fee, or you need to provide your full bank account information for direct deposit of the check, or something similar. It sounds a bit fishy to me that you would receive $900 just for being called by a telemarketer.

My daughter did a search and found out my cell number is included in the list; so I'm a part of the lawsuit. I'm a little leery figuring it's probably just another scam, but if I'm entitled, send me a check! I'll research a little more before sending in my claim.

My brother won a class action against AT&T where the company ripped off millions from customers. He got a check in the mail a couple of years later for 14 cents. The lawyers got the millions...

That's how class action law suits work. The plaintiffs get nothing and the lawyers get it all. I certainly would not count on getting $900 from a class action lawsuit. Nine hundred cents would be pushing the limit.

Amen. Particularly in a situation where you may have actual damages, you should NEVER join a class-action suit. By accepting the pay-out -- which generally amounts to fractions of a penny on the dollar after the lawyers' fees are deducted -- you waive any further claim to compensation. My wife and I, who both own Toyotas, recently received an offer to share in the settlement reached over the exploding airbags. NO WAY! Accept that, and there goes the (eventual) free fix and/or compensation for any actual damages we might incur should an airbag go off in our faces.

Seems I got one of the "AT&T" checks, but mine was nowhere near that big.

I got $50 from a class action suit against Hyundai for claiming their Elantra had the highest horsepower in it's class or some such nonsense. It was in the form of a gift card, which I used for gas in my Elantra.

I'm with vito on being careful of how you "get" your refund.

As far as telemarketing, it is still going strong. I changed phone carriers,
phone equipment, and how I did several things. Reduced the TM calls,
but there is still one that calls regularly. The main difference is that most
of the calls I receive are "from" bogus numbers (caller ID of 000 000 0000
told me so), many of them supposedly from in town (my area code, the
prefix that is in town, and phony( ) suffix {6969}). If the ding-dang
answering machine had an option to silence the out-going message, it
would be near perfect.

You are AUTOMATICALLY included in class action law suits and have to OPT OUT if you want to be excluded. Who says lawyers aren't crooks? 8) BTW aren't many politicians lawyers?...so what do we expect from Washington DC.?

TY;
Is that the one against the "FREE CRUISE" spam calls?
I checked both of our numbers and neither qualifies (DAMN !!)
I do get spam calls, I do NOT answer if I don't know the number and 99.99% of the time IF I call the number back I get a busy signal that screams "ROBO-SCAM CALL" and then it goes onto my iPhone BLOCKED number list.

Miss Penny found it,, (she works in a law office,) and did a bit of research.

As I mentioned,, I MAY get up to $900,,, that's the max I could receive.

I was involved in another class action several years ago,,, and I did get a fair settlement.

Keep us posted on that $900. I'm a doubter but it would be nice to see someone actually get what's promised.

Speaking of Politicians.. remember when they passed the law creating the no call list... guess who gets excluded from it?.... politicians....

Remember the great insider-trading scandal, when it was revealed that Congressmen were exempt from insider-trading laws? With great fanfare, they changed that -- and then, six months later and literally in the middle of the night, and with no publicity, they went back and reinstated their insider-trading privileges.

And how about their exemption from the Civil Rights Act? And the Equal Employment Act? And... well, you get the drift. Thieves, liars, cowards every one, and without exception.
