I have seen several of the paclites used in Steel Challenge shooting. I have also shot a few of them myself,, and while they were nice,, I felt they were a bit too light for my comfort. They are quality built,, and a lot of folks seem to prefer them.

Cost is a little stiff for me, but I can see their purpose for back packing or speed shooting.
I assume you are not referring to a 22-45 with PACLITE.
I have also considered a PACLITE upper and have handled several MK II's with the 6" barrel. Compared to the MK II Competition model, the balance is shifted slightly to the rear, different, but owing to the angle of the Ruger grip, very comfortable and natural. If you want to do speed shooting, a PACLITE would shift the weight center more toward your grip and reduce polar moment.
My recommendations: For routine target shooting - a MK II Competition or Govt Model.
For speed shooting, or for a lighter weight pistol to pack in the field, purchase a MK II with standard tapered barrel and add a PACLITE.
I would not convert a MK I and with all the good used MK IIs around, never purchase a MK III.

Well I have a mk-III competition, and I really like it. I will probably leave it as is for now, I was just looking at my options. I like the heavy feel of the barrel on it now, that's why I don't think I would go to the paclite unless it improved accuracy by a decent amount. The other option would be buying a used mk-II and getting a paclite for it, but that would cost more than I'm willing to put into it anytime soon. The LLV by volquartsen looks interesting, and knowing them I would assume it would be more accurate than the original barrel. I looked around and only saw picture of it on the 22-45, so I wonder how it would look on my stainless mark III.

Threaded PacLite on my MKII with SWR Spectre. Very accurate, quiet too! Without the muffler a little light but balances nicely. Coal Creek Armory applied Isonite QPQ to the grip frame to match the upper.

Here is mine, a 22/45 with the Pac Lite and a AAC Pilot Suppressor... My target gun is above it, also a 22/45 with the 6 7/8s bull fluted barrel. It no longer has that sight though, its got a JPoint.
I have a 22/45, red dot sight with a bull barrel and I thought it was accurate..........
.....until I got my Volquartsen Masters. It is like having magnetic bullets with a steel target.
I have never shot any pistol that was more acurate....just unbelievable! The difference between the two is quite vast!
With a red dot sight I can easily shoot the timed 50 ft./5-shot with all in the red over and over until it is boring.

Sure are some very nice looking pistols y'all have in this thread. They just keep me drooling. Some day maybe, I hope. :lol:
