Super Redhawk with Hogue grip issues

Hello. I have a Super Redhawk in 44mag. I am trying to figure out why the polymer mono grips (item 80100) refuse to fit on my revolver. I have contacted Hogue about this and initially I was told that there was obviously an issue with the grips and they sent me new grips. After receiving the new grips, I had the same issue. I once again contacted Hogue, and I was told they are a tight fit and I have to really force them on. However, I tried to push with all my might and they won't budge more than 3/4 of the way. Anyone have any idea?

They are a tight fit. Try pushing them on using a curved path, don't push them straight on. Keep trying from different angles until you find the one that works.

That's a no go. I've been trying as hard as I could in every possible angle I can.

I don't remember my Hogue's having what looks in your pictures like a white plastic liner? Am I seeing that correctly?

Anyway ..... you try spraying a dab of lubricant inside the grip to make the install easier?

The grips are a very tight fit. There should be a channel for the stirrup pin to slide down. Keep trying without the stirrup and see where it is binding. You may have to cut some of the inside away. Sometimes small changes in production result in parts binding. I think a little silicone spray lube might be a good idea.

I will try some silicone spray. The stirrup slides down by itself without a problem at all. I can try filing the plastic down a little. It binds in the same spot with out without the stirrup. I just thought it to be a bit off that two of the same grips did the same thing. I literally cannot try any harder to push it on. I am not about to take a mallet to it either. If all else fails, I will just hang my head in shame and go to the my LGS tomorrow and see if they can get it on.

Take the mainspring out and try it, from the scratches I see in the grip it looks like the spring seat might be holding you up.

That didn't work either. Guess I will have to try filing it down some.

Might try putting the grip in a pan of boiling water for a few minutes to soften it up, then push on with a gloved hand.

All their synthetic grips and stocks are like that. That's why they call it "over-molded". Because the rubber is molded over a hard plastic sub-frame.

Get the little ladies hair dryer and and warm those grips up.

mine have the white "stiffener". really hard to get on and off!! as mentioned, there are curved grooves that the pin will ride in.

After much frustration, a bit of a heat gun, and filing... It's finally on! What a total pain in the butt! Thank you everyone for the advice.

I had the same problem with a Tulip wood grip from hogue too! I had to use a rubber mallet to install them!

I decided to keep the grips on my Redhawk .44 Magnum for that reason.Just to hard to change them.
