My 2017 SRH has Ruger branded Hogue rubber style grips which I mostly like because last year I injured the connecting tissue of my thumb with an Anaconda, but what I do not like about my current Ruger grips is the finger grooves.

I've never handled a GP or another SRH so if this is common knowledge bear with me, so can anyone tell me if the Ruger separate panels with the inserts...

1. Are made of soft or hard of rubber?
2. Do they protect the thumb from the back strap as well as the soft Hogue style?
3. The same as GP-100 grips?

Any grip that will fit on a GP100 will fit on a Super Redhawk. The grips with the inserts are a "softer" rubber, and are a bit softer than the Hogue monogrips. They do keep the thumb away from the back strap. A lot of people prefer the insert style grips over the Hogues. I used Hogue finger groove grips on my PPC gun so that I would have a consistent grip every time the gun was in my hand. But for the SRH, I really like the insert style.

Thanks Ron, I think I'll try a set of the standard Ruger grips. I'm not ordinarily one for revolver aesthetics but for sure they look better than the Hogue style.

The grips arrived today and with those finger grooves gone it's more natural feeling though the rubber composition is quite a bit harder than the Hogue style. Shooting will tell.

One thing, the short metal rod which is supposedly for grip stability is way too large to fit the hole but luckily the little rod that came with the OEM Hogue grips fit. I'll have to gen something up that's a bit longer.

Just get a piece of aluminum rod that is the right diameter and cut a piece to length. Or, find a bolt that is the right diameter and cut it to the right length, it's just to hold the grip in place so it can be just about any metal.

A .357 mag case cut down a bit works great though I wrote Altamont about getting a replacement.

There are actually two types of rubber with the SBH (GP100) grips with panels. The newer grip is one piece grip and it is soft rubber. The two-piece grips with panels are hard rubber.

The grips I got are Altamont branded, one piece and def not soft.

I wrote Altamont and they're sending me the aluminum pin thingy.

Any pics of the completed pistol? Im getting a SRH this week, and I KNOW that I will be swapping grips for something different
Actually I took the Altamont grips off and put the softer OEM grips back on I like the softer rubber better. A while back my Anaconda beat the snot out of the connective tissue at the base of my right thumb so softer is better nowadays.

I'll admit the grips with the wood panel have the looks, but looks are a distant consideration over not injuring my thumb again.

One day they may go on a GP
