I shot some Remington subsonic ammo today in my 10/22, and a few of the rounds didn't force the bolt back with enough force to properly cycle it, resulting in stovepipes. I also had some problems with Remington Viper ammo (it just barely cycled the action properly on several shots). The problem wasn't the gun though, as the CCI Blazer stuff functioned fine in the weapon. Any ideas as to why the subsonic and Viper wouldn't function properly? Would it being a few months old have an effect on it?

The subsonic ammo malfunction is probably just as you thought.... it just ain't got enough ooomph to force the bolt all the way back.

I would expect the Viper ammo to work just fine.... it's a lighter bullet, but at a higher velocity, so it ought to work. At the risk of starting another 5 page thread, maybe a Volquaretsen extractor would solve the problem - it could have something to do with the case dimensions.

I use CCI standard velocity in my 10/22s and that is a subsonic load. Relatively clean ammo too which is nice if you are using a suppressor!
