Stainless TALO 44 Special

OK...everybody missed this one!!

At first glance this looks like the batch of 1,000 or so guns produced for the TALO group of distributors...but the gun in the GB auction is much different!!!

The first 1,000 guns had 520- prefixes and an internal lock.

The gun in this GB auction has a 521- prefix and presumably, no internal lock - meaning it was evidently made way after the initial batch.
So what gives, and how many late production guns were made?
Evidently not many because I've not heard a peep from the RF crowd on new stainless .44 Specials.

I have 521-34353. Bought from Davidson's in April, 2014.

I have one as well--521 prefix stainless 44 special--from Davidsons almost exactly a year ago today!

I have an original run 520 but specifically bought this one due to the fact it had no lock.

Local dealer had one last week, and sold it, but it was in that batch of about 10 guns that Lipsey's got from Ruger, leftovers. The fired case date was something like March 2014, I think.

I will try to get you the s/n.

Its starting to look like the lock variety is pretty scarce, besides one early gun 521-34061, the other four noted only range between 521-34353 and 521-34368...a span of 16 guns.

Looks like there were two very small runs of January and March 2014.
It is starting to piece together a little bit now. So far, both runs span a meager 24 guns.

I know this an old thread…I picked up a 521 prefix a little while ago and I was wondering if there was any more information about them?

Yes, there were 1,120 made with the internal lock in serial range 520-20241 to 520-31047
and an additional 587 without the internal lock in serial range 521-34345 to 521-43265.

Never can tell on the hammer. An employee might have done it, but no way to prove.

I also have this same 44 spl. with serial # 521-38769 here in Canada.

Also have another stainless, identical one in .357 mag/9mm with rosewood gunfighter grips
Both are with the sweet 4-5/8" barrel length. Love the .44 just a weeee bit more! 8)
No grip frame locks on either & both purchased in 2016.....

Thanks! Grips are Buckeye Burl and a little wider than stock...they fit my hand much better.
