The star guns in 1975 were the only 22LR only guns, all the rest were convertibles so I don't think they designated boxes with an X. They just had a different catalog number.I have one just like it with no X . I guess maybe they didn't use the
X to designate convertible yet . Thanks
I still have the same question. I understand 300 is rare. I asked why it was rare or more importantly how it is rare. What's the difference in it and other stainless Single Six New Model convertibles?GasGuzzler,
Only 300 sets made.
But beware of fakes. I almost bought another one a few years ago but when I called Ruger Records it shipped as a KNR-5.
Now that we no longer have that service altered guns are going to be harder to establish.

That's a beauty! Where did you find it?Picked up this rare KNR4 convertible LIberty single six with firing pin groove on 22LR cylinder and fluted non roll marked magnum cylinder. RENE says less than 300. Love finding complete packages in the box.

You snagged a good one, good for you!
Now you need to find a KBN-36X, to go along with your KNR-4 Liberty, only 300 of each model made.
Both early SS revolvers.
As an after thought do not pass up a NR-4 Liberty also, they are a sleeper only 2000 made.
Good Hunting,

In 1976 all Ruger firearms were roll-marked,How can you tell the difference between the models of 200 year Liberty stamp. Per lowhighlander’s information the serial numbers is large range.
Is it only the length? I don’t have access to the boxes right now, would that give any other clue?
sorry if this question was already answered.
RENE is my answer! How can you tell the difference between ……..
The only non convertibles have a star, I just posted another thread with them. Here are the 2 different magnum cylinders. Thanks for info. Now to add to my stupidity64-, is for new model 22 made in 1976. So it is either a NR4,5,6 ,9 or KNR 4,5,6. How do you tell the difference between old model cylinders and new? If 64-64789 falls in KNR4 serial number range that doesn’t guarantee anything. What’s even worse of a question is ‘Not all .22s are convertible?
