Friend is looking for a set to fit his SBH. Says it came originally with both wood and simulated I or and he cracked the ivory ones. Shopruger.com doesn't show them. Any place else and about what would they cost?

The "formulated" ivory "(reconstituted", or whatever) will age; many faux ivory will not.
I have an old pair on my 1976 SBH that is aging in streaks. Looks pretty good. Right now, placed like Boone Trading are having sales on real ivory (get it while you can). He made me a set for an OM Ruger flattop 44 mag last fall. Think he charged about $400.
Real Ivory:

Sorry, this is a Colt's SAA but this is Tru-Ivory. They seem to have closed up shop but there are some on Gunbroker, etc, if you are lucky! The BEST faux ivory. Ages, etc.
Lastly: From Teepee Creeper at Western Wildlife and Wonders. He has (had?) a very good, semi-aged faux ivory that was very close to real.

Just checked Boone's site and he has 3 pair of SBH grips in ivory for $395 each. Take a look!

Take a look at a couple of our members here who do custom grips. I ordered a set of birdseye maple from Sgt. Schultz and everyone who sees them ask if they are ivory. They are tough as iron and fit like a dream. Might be a choice for him.

Thanks for the replies. The friend just wanted the original Ruger issued grips with medallions so looks like Altamont will be his best shot.
Does his SBH have the rounded trigger guard? If so, I just looked at Shopruger.com, and it looks to me like they are showing them.

As Wproct mentioned, if the SBH is a shorter barrel length and does not have the Dragoon (square back trigger guard) or Hunter style grip frame, then it's just another XR3-RED grip frame like the pre-2005 Big Vaqueros had, and blackhawks (and short SBH's) still have, so finding faux Ivory Factory grips should be pretty easy, and far less expensive than the real deal ivory grips getting kicked around here.

Says it is the square trigger guard but I have never seen one from Ruger with that combo.
