SS/Black Lam MkII thread

Would like to start a thread on the MkII's in stainless with black laminated stocks to see what all is out there for calibers and maybe some idea on how many. I do know there are not a lot in certain calibers and some of these are downright rare and hard to find. There were two runs as far as I know. The first run had uncheckered stocks and the second run was some of the last MkIi's before the Hawkeye was introduced. Those had checkering and they have the LC-6 triggers. I was told by a distributor (Black Rock iirc) that there were 100 25-06's and 50 264's in the last run. Wether that is accurate or not , I don't know.

I have a 7mm-08 from the first run.

From the second run I have a 25-06 , 264 , and a 280.

What calibers do you have and from which run?

I like these models and have also restocked a couple of all-weathers to match. I have a 350 Rem mag , a 7mag RS , and my 77/22 mag set up like this also. Please be constructive here and if all you are going to post is how you hate stainless and are a true blue and walnut guy...save it for some other post...

As of yet I don't have any but stainless and midnight laminate is the only way I'll go.

Just a really accurate MKII Target in 6.5 Creedmoor for me.

Yeah it is Big Rock Matt. I knew it was something like that!

I can't complain about accuracy in the 7mm-08 or the 25-06. Both have done 1/2" 5 shot groups with my handloads. I am still working on a load for the 264 and the 280 is nib.

I have also seen from the first run of rifles a 223 , 243 , 270 , 264 , and 7mag. I would like to find out what all was chambered and track them all down someday. I have what I believe are the lowest producrion calibers in the second run with the 264 and 280.

I saw that 280 in the Hawkeye Sporter is new this year, and it looks really good. I already have a .280 in the MKII though. I'm thinking of making that one a 280AI though.

My 280 is a MkII , ss/black laminate. Just a somewhat educated guess but i doubt there were more than 50 made in that run. Until ruger stops with the bead blasting i'm done buying new ones.

I agree, I think its a coating though. On my 6.5 I actually had to clean that off with emery cloth as it was binding up in the action a bit.

I'm sure a little elbow grease and emery cloth would put the shine back on, but I'm a little hesitant to try it on the whole rifle.

Anyone else out there wih these rifles? It would be nice to hear of more to get an idea of how many might be out there and in which calibers.

Btw...I snagged my second 280 today. The only two I've seen or heard of and they will be residing in the safe soon!

Ohh It would be nice if there were only 2 of them 280's out there and they both were in my safe!

I try to diversify but these are my favorite working guns. The ones that do see a lot of time in the woods look as new after they get cleaned up. As much as I do like blued , I never have that kind of luck with keeping them looking good.
