After reading a lot of internet chatter and shooting a Glock 27, I decided the Ruger was for me.

I'm a new CHL holder and weighing my options in 9mm. I held an SR9c and was sold.

I like the option of large capacity or a shorter tail mag.

First impressions:

The shipping slime was every where.
Action is very tight. Almost too stiff even to chamber a round.
I guess the compact design makes loading a mag difficult ... when compared to a S&W Sigma and XDm.
Hard not to teacup witht eh 10 round mag.

Very impressed with the accuracy. At ~10 yards, I was able to group in a 6" diameter.

Things that make me say hmmm ...

Are extra mags really $30 and hard to find?

Will the locking pin loosen up any? I can't push hard enough with my finger or fingernail to release it.

:D When I first got mine the slide release required pulling back slightly on the slide while pressing down to chamber the first round. After about a 100 rounds it releases easily and will slingshot the first round into the chamber after a mag change from the locked open position.

You evidently have never unpacked a military fire arm, combo of beeswax, gauze, slime and something that smells like buttgrease

That will loosen up.

That too will get a bit easier. ...and you had to mention a Sigma?

If you are referring to using the off hand palm under, that's just really bad mechanics. I have large hands and can put a fairly decent normal two hand grip on an SR9c W/ a 10 rd mag.

You would be surprised at the amount for other gunmaker's magazines, some are over $60 I was going to start a company that gave magazines away for free, I couldn't get any investors, imagine that.

Are you locking it back and removing the mag?

The SR9c is a great gun, you'll get use to it and like it even better than at first glance.

I too have large hands ...

It was hard taking the shot with my left hand, but you get the idea.
I don't have near the issue with mechanics using the 17 round mag.

But I can force my left hand to a proper grip and before long, I notice I've repositioned it to cradle my right hand, never contacting the butt of the gun.

And yes, I wiped the gun down again to get the residue off.

I understand ... the web of my hand does ride in the cradle. Shot was taken with my left hand and not paying attention to the grip so much.

But it doesn't alter the fact that my pinky is hanging out in the breeze while the FU finger is jammed ugainst the trigger guard.

Have you changed your mind? The C means compact.
Maybe you should have an SR9.

Welcome to the SR9 family...
My SR9c will be the last gun I would ever get rid of.....

Good shooter and in my hands it fits JUST Right.

Have fun and shoot safe...

Lateck,

Just picked up an SR9c for my birthday. :D

I took it home and cleaned it like most here recommend. The underside of the slide was full of packing goo. I used Powder Blast to get most of it off, and scrubbed it clean.

I really like the feel of the SR9c in my hand versus the Glock 23, and the trigger seems to be smoother too.

I'll probably get to the range Friday morning to try it out (promised the wife I'd shampoo the carpet tomorrow).

No sir.
I specifically wanted a compact as my EDC.

The Glock was too wide and fit funny.

I use code words with my wife all the time in front of mixed company. :D

I screwed up on the magazine lengths. On an SR9c they are different lengths for the 10-round and 17-round. On an SR9 they would have to be the same length.

That being said, I'm going to guess that the SR9 10-round magazine has either a thicker follower, or an insert in the bottom to limit the number of rounds.

I would think it would be easier to just buy new 17-round magazines, which will also have the little windows so you can see the loaded rounds.

I've searched and being doing as much reading as I can. I just want to be 100% clear.

SR9 mags (both 10 and 17 round versions) will work in an SR9c without internal modification. Is that a true statement?

Yes. The SR9c ships with a grip extender that slides over the 17 round mag. It does not have a set screw like ones for the Glocks. I have shot mine without the grip extended and had no malfuntions. My SR9c came with both the short 10 rd mag, a full size 17 rd mag, a grip extender, and 2 floor plates for the 10 rd mag (1 flat and 1 pinky rest).

the long 10-rd sr9 mags have a long baseplate, but are otherwise identical to the sr9c mags. if you put an sr9c floorplate on the 10-rd sr9 mag, it will be an sr9c magazine.
