SR9 windage adjustment hex wrench size

The owners manual says to use a 5/64" allen to loosen the rear sight so I went and bought one. Maybe I'm missing something but it is way too big.
If 5/64" is the right size, can someone tell me where I'm going wrong? The hole seems tiny on it.
Sorry for the noob question but I searched this site and couldn't find an answer to it.

I checked all of my sets of allen wrenches and unfortunately none of them have the size stamped on them. If you don't want to buy a set of wrenches, you could take the slide to the store with you to determine the correct size. But not sure why you wouldn't want to buy a set.

I tried my 5/64" in my SR9 and it seemed to fit just fine. I didn't try to do anything with it, but it fit and felt snug that had I tried it was the right size.

Oh, i thought it was the hole in front of what looks like the flathead screw. I'm probably wrong.

It's just forward of the elevation adjustment screw. It sounds like what you're describing is the elevation pivot pin.

It's just forward of the elevation adjustment screw. It sounds like what you're describing is the elevation pivot pin.

DOH!! I'm not sure how I missed that. My eyes are really bad and I couldn't read the letters that said "windage" right there. My wife had to read it.
The 5/64" hex does not grab anything in there and looking at it with a flashlight it looks perfectly round inside. I'm still not sure how to adjust it.

The lock screw itself is below the hole in the rear sight leaf. When you finally get it loose, it's not going to come all the way out so don't force it. Before you actually get to moving the sight, I'd really recommend that you shoot several groups from a bench rest or sand bag to make absolutely sure that it's the sight that's off and that it's not operator error :wink: .

I looked in that hole with a flashlight and it looks completely round, no sign a hex would grab anything. I've tried going in with the hex and nothing grabs at all either.
I absolutely will be shooting more before adjusting, but I'd like to know now that everything works.

MIght want to try looking in there with a magnifying glass and see if there are any threads. It could be that the screw is missing.

Well, I guess I'm bringing back to the store I bought it from. I looked in with a magnifying glass and flashlight and there are only threads in there. I guess it's missing the screw.

Oddball things happen all the time and this sounds like one of those. If the gun shop doesn't fix it, give Ruger a call. The have a reputation for strong customer service so they should make things right pretty quick.
