SR9 Slide Question

The last two times I have been to the range I used Blazer ammo only. I went yesterday, I used American Eagle and some Remington UMC ammo. I shot around 120 rounds, and about 5 or 6 shots, my slide wouldn't go all the way forward. It lacked about an 1/8" from going all the way forward. I had to hit the back of the slide to seat it fully.

Do you think going to a new ammo caused this? With the range trip yesterday, I have shot close to 400 rounds total through my gun. I didn't have this problem with the Blazer.

How clean was the weapon? That would be a good place to start. Also did you try to cycle any other ammo through it?

It's clean, I clean it after every range trip. Just the two, remington and american eagle. Like i said before, the Blazer didn't give me any problems.

I have the same problem with mine, except mine would also do it when I load the magazine and release the slide. It gets jammed. And it's brand new at that! First shot it yesterday. I need some help cuz I'm kind of a newbie with firearms. I'm pretty sure I'm not doing anything wrong though. Could it be a manufacturing problem?

Hi and welcome Meandragon, are you releasing the slide manually and holding the slide in your hand as you let it close? If so, don't. "Sling-Shot" it. You're likely "riding the slide" and that will steal force from the guide spring that is made to close the slide under force of natural recoil/operation. Just pull the slide back the little bit to drop the slide stop and let it fly. You won't hurt it.

Let the slide do the work.

Thanks for the reply. But yes, I tried both ways. Manually was the first attempt, got jammed. Then from then on I would just sling-shot it and out of about 9-10 magazines it got jammed 2-3 times doing it like that. That's not including the times it jammed up while firing. Was pretty disappointed.

Only other solution is if your magazine wasn't properly seated. I'm also somewhat a newbie, but now how much more depth into firearms. The first time I shot my SR9, I jammed and had a I fte(failed to eject) and that was only with S&B one time. All the other ammo I've tried never jammed up. Also, it could be that your not placing the casings all the way back in the magazine. Another problem could be that your limp wristing.

Great call Lakers. My vote is on limp wristing. If you don't have a firm grip on the gun up to your follow-through, it can throw-off the recoil and cause it not to go back into battery completely, and often not completely extract or feed correctly. I've used just about every type of factory ammo through my SR9, with essentially no problems. Now I'm shooting my own reloads, and find increased reliability as well as accuracy...not to mention a lower cost.
