SR9 - Question on hole in slide.

Was cleaning my SR9 the other day and was curious to the purpose of this hole in the slide. Any ideas?

Maybe a pressure escape? idk for sure...

First guess is that it's a place for the CNC's to grab on a bit tighter while the're being machined.

Second guess is that Ruger planned to put another safety device onto the guns, but decided against it during original manufacture.

Yep that's what we all need, another safety device.
I believe Ruger sales would increase dramatically if they would produce the SR9 and P345 without the mag disconnect safety.

Can't you just imagine telling the BG to stop and give you a minute to figure out why your pistol won't fire. Ruger may have a big lawsuit on their hands from the victims next of kin.

i believe this is the mag disconnect safety
meaning that this one has been removed so you can pull the trigger with the magizine removed
i removed mine so when shooting ipsc you can dry fire your gun with mag out
hope this is correct

You DID notice that he circled a different hole than the mag disconnect location?

That hole has nothing to do with the mag disconnect, as it's located further back in the striker channel.

I don't know what the hole is for though.

My only guess is a debris port to allow anything that may end up in the striker channel to get out.
