SR22 pistol question

Daughter has decided(against my advice) to carry an SR22 . Mine is only used infrequently to jingle the swingers and pop cans so I don't really know much about them. I'm seeing listings for steel guide rods purporting less chance of spring binding and better overall function. Is this something I need to get and put in her little gun? Cost is negligible(wouldn't make any diff if it's a needed modification).

We own a pair of those guns. No problems shooting them, and no modifications necessary in my opinion. We use ours at WOT clinics too.

I'm all for modifications and improvements but I'm keeping my original guide rod and spring. I don't know what problem the metal rod is supposed to solve, except that some people prefer their guns to have more metal parts.

I had a significant problem with my SR22P. It leaded up horribly.
A little Hoppe's number 9, and a WHOLE LOT of elbow grease cured it.

I've not had any problems since.

I think you need to be more concerned with the caliber for carry than a guide rod.

It's the perfect size and weight to carry, makes me wish Ruger would make it in 9MM, other than the SR22 not having any knock down power, my concern would be whether or not it would fire when really needed and not jamb up or miss fire, they are fun little guns but not dependable enough to trust with your life.

My SR22 has been 100% functional to the extent that I've shot it. I'm not a "battle rattle" kind of guy but the little pistol will put triple taps on target like a champ and that's the way I'm teaching her to use it. She has rheumatoid arthritis and simply doesn't have the hand strength to handle a bigger gun, heavier mainspring, or more recoil. I encouraged her to go with an SP101 in 38 but she couldn't make it work so we're at the stage of "something is better than nothing" .

CCI Velocitors are probably the most oomph out there for keeping evil things at bay whilst packing a .22(lr) pistol. Teach her to shoot quickly if she's seriously going to be using the SR22 as an EDC.

Mobuck, you are doing the right thing. Letting HER pick the gun SHE can use & carry. MANY people can not operate certain guns easily. And a 22 is better by far than a 25, or a 32.
I don't think any mods are needed since it has already proven to be reliable.

Just make sure she has good ammo. There is a mod you can do to up the mag cap. by 2 or 3 more rounds. All you do is change the followers in the mags. I found this on www.rimfirecentral.com

The SR22 is better than nothing. Have to agree if that is what she wants it is what she should carry. My wife sleeps with my LCR22 because she cant handle the recoil of my LCR38.
I have not added any of the mods to my SR22. It has been my main carry piece when out in the woods shed hunting etc. Even the big grip was a little small for me, so I did add a Pachmayr grip sleeve. So far mine has had zero malfunctions with everything from sub-sonic to stingers.

:) My SR 22 does not have the stopping power of my Kimber .45 but it would be useless for someone not capable of handling it. The SR 22 will function quite well if you use Good HV ammo such as CCI Mini-Mags. Aquila Interceptor is a ultra HV ammo I recommend for SD use.
The factory spring/rod works OK but for under $25.00 you can get a Galloway SS rod with a captive spring that makes it easier than the 2 piece part to strip and re assemble.

Please explain the easier part. Thousands of rounds through my SR and the recoil spring and rod have never been an issue. Harder to put my cleaning rod together than it is to use the factory spring/rod. Save the $25 or send to me so I can buy some ammo. lol
