First post here ladies and gents. Quick question regarding the 556e. My fiance went to the local cabela's the other day, picked out and bought an SR-556E. It's my understanding that Ruger does not use the chrome BCG in the Essential model as they use on the other variants of the SR-556. However, the BCG on this particular 556E, as well as the rest of the 556E's that were at cabela's had the chrome BCG... Does anyone know if Ruger decided to put the chrome BCG in the 556E's this year, or did we get lucky? I don't see a cabela's specific version of the weapon anywhere. Just curious. Thanks in advance.

Not that I know of. What model # did he get? Should be a 4 digit number starting with a 5. Can you post pictures?

She bought model number 5912... I can't figure out how to post the pictures... low-tech redneck i suppose.

Looks like it came with the standard grip the E model comes with, but that BCG looks chromed to me. Congrats! Is the barrel fluted under the grips? How the trigger on it? Mine beaks around 7+ pounds and feels like gravel was thrown in it. I will be putting a new trigger in soon, but might as well wait to do it till I have some ammo to shoot. :)

the barrel is not fluted... It seems to be a heavier barrel than my RRA or Bushmaster barrels... then again, i think the barrel is also 1.5" or so longer on this model than my other two. Haven't pulled the trigger on it yet. Hopefully we can get to the range this week and find out. This gun is a solid build with no play in it whatsoever... Hopefully it shoots well. As far as ammo is concerned... I hope she doesn't plan on borrowing from my stash. I've built it up over the last year.

A chrome BCG isn't necessary on these guns at all, so it really wouldn't matter one way or the other. They are piston driven and don't dump gas on the bolt.

It was just a nice surprise to see an "upgraded" part that I believed to be scrapped from the E-variant of the SR-556.

In the "mad rush" to satisfy consumer demand right now, they may have used the chrome BCG in order to get more guns out the door.
