This afternoon, Dick and I went for a ride in the worlds largest playground. Of course we had to chew some seeds and talk about how lucky we were to be able to do something like this. We got about 20 or so squirrels. They are sometimes hard to find in the tall grass and even though they are hit they flop around and sometimes get down their holes. I had to step on one to keep it from making it down its hole even though it was dragging most of it's innards' We retrieved these 7 squirrels from one stop in the road. There was some range cows near by which kept spooking the squirrels. Dick usually turns his hat around backwards and bellers at them, but tonight he just threw some rocks at them and they laughed at him.

That is the new Callshot Fan Club 44 Special. I was using some 240 gr. hollowpoints with 7.5 gr. Unique. I had to move it one more click to the right because I was missing a few shots. We haven't put this load on paper yet.

This picture is looking east from where we were at.

This picture is looking South-and a little West from the same spot. What a beautiful area and a great evening.

Jeff Hoover calls it plinking, but we call it FUN It is good practice, and I am getting the new gun broke in for this fall. Steve

Sure wish I was back in Idaho, instead of here in KY where it is so humid! Nice shooting by the way!

Yup those 5 1/2" Bisleys are sure ground squirrel slayers! I shot 8 or 10 of the little buggers with mine the last time I went out, a couple at ranges most guys would call BS at!

Glad to see you are not letting any cobwebs grow in that barrel...

Coupla' more ground squirrels Steve, and you can skin and tan them for some nice thongs, for the "Fan Club" members !

Glad to see you enjoy the gun so much!

While we may not have the ground squirrels you have to shoot at,, around here our way of keeping tuned up is to walk the creek bank, looking for various targets of opportunity. Snakes, turtles, etc. Field hunting,, no matter the species helps a lot when it comes time to get serious on a deer, elk, moose etc!
I see the smile is still there,, and the squirrels are suffering!

Looks like a great time, Steve! I sure appreciate your draggin ol Dick along, keeps him out of trouble. Wish I was there instead of here in the heat and humidity remodeling a house. Keep after them and enjoy that .44!

Callshot is getting as good with his camera as he is with the fan club gun! He was lighting up squirrels at good distance again & that scary grin is always on his mug. I was hoping to sig him on a badger, didn't happen!
You wonder how a guy with a patch over his right eye can shoot so well, look at that first photo... & he shoots right handed, amazing!

Serious question - can you eat those little buggers? Remember I'm from Louisiana :D

Figure since BP has screwed up the seafood, maybe a "prairie rat gumbo" may be on the menu for tourist - or just the rest of us unemployed "little people".

I would love to live where I could do long shots in open range on something like this.

I remember the first time I saw one of these, my wife and I were in New Mexico and I was explaining to her how the sport worked. She said "but they look so happy and friendly". I said "you know, they really do, every picture I have ever seen of them they seem to have a smile on their face - EVEN WHEN THEY ARE DEAD" .

They carry disease so I wouldn't eat one. They are just pests, but they make good target practice. There isn't much there to eat anyway, especially after being hit with a larger bullet. We are looking for badgers and the squirrels are a source of food for them. Their smiles don't last long, Steve

Callshot, I met 3 fellas who want to take you on! They said they werent scared of you and youre 44 special!!!

Best break out the big guns if you want to take on these boys....

Fermin, I"ve seen callshot decoy these varmints in using a hulahoop. While in full callshot garb, cap, plaid vest, thong, and crocs, Steve will start gyrating his hips, twirling the plastic hoop faster and faster, while singing the Elvis Presley hit, " I'm all shook up" . Mesmerized by the spinning Whammo toy, and the Scottish singing scarecrow, the rodents creep closer and closer for a good look, and chuckle. Now is when callshot clears his Barranti leather with his magical .44 Callshot club Bisley, and unleashes a home cast, deadly handloaded, projectile. Usually, the aim is true, and the ground squirrel tumbles to lifelessness.

Steve then starts the whole cycle over, waiting patiently for his next victim.

LOL!

I jabbered with him a bit today Jeffy. He has built himself some proper 44 special bullets.....429215's!

Silly me, I didn't think about that 44 mag sucking all of that little meat from under that little fur coat they are wearing. Nothing for gumbo left. :(
