I notice that in DA mode the cylinder latch drops into the notch at almost the exact moment that the trigger breaks. Is that normal?

Yep, that is normal when the trigger is pulled very slowly, the timing will be close. Not a problem as long as it is not 'late'. The rotation of the cylinder, especially when loaded with bullets, will carry the cylinder to lock-up before the hammer drops. :D

The trigger return spring is also the latch spring on the GP100/SP101..
I think you're confusing the cylinder latch with the trigger guard latch. They are two different springs.

Jimbo's right ..
I completely missed what you were saying as far as timing goes..
I know on a S&W we install a slightly wider hand to fix these type of timing issues..
As long as it's not LATE it will be fine..
