Can anyone tell me what the price is that the dealer pays for a SP101? (2 1/4" barrel 357mag)
want to make sure I'm not paying to much.

Don't knw what a dealer pays, but the best price I have seen while looking was $439 at a gun show. Most of them at the gun shows are running $469 here in Va.

No idea but mint condition used SP101's like you describe bring $400 here and don't last a day or two on the dealer shelves.

They are $412.75 in the 2011 Jerry's Sports Center dealer wholesale catalog. But you won't find a new one for that anywhere. The dealer has to make a living too. Bud's Gun Shop sells them for $464 with free shipping, but you'll probably have to pay a transfer fee. Most local gunshops I have seen have them marked anywhere from $469 to $499 (plus tax, of course).

Two years ago I paid $439.95 at a gun shop for a 2-1/4" SP-101 .357. Don't know what the dealer paid, but you can be sure there was a markup.

Check Davidson's from a gun store near you.

You should find a new one for around $475 + tax and Fees.

I'm paying $450 for one, maybe a bit less with some cash in hand when I go to the dealer on Friday. Another dealer has one for $525. Wasn't hard on where to decide to buy

was hoping someone was a FFL out there and could tell me.
And yes I understand they have to price them to make a living, but no need for them to make it all off me, I think some dealers around me are way over charging, and I like to keep them honest.
I'm guessing the dealer pays under $300

Jerry's Sports Center is one of the major wholealers. If a dealer buys ONE SP101 from them, then $412.75 IS what they pay. They may get a discount if they buy a whole bunch of them, but $412.75 is the advertised wholesale price. I took it directly out of a Jerry's Sports Center catalog that was given to me by an FFL dealer friend of mine.

My dealer in Cincinnati charged $442 each for the two SP101's I bought in the last three months (327 mag and 357 mag, 2 inch spurless). He told me he made $30 on each one. Love both of them.

Go here:

Select the gun you want, then opt for a quote. I always check dealers within a 50 mile radius. Easy to see who has the lowest price and also who is tacking on additional fees.

I quickly bought the only sub$400 SP101 I have ever seen. Lightly used 3 1/16" .357 from a pawn shop last year. Same place I bought my Stainless 9mm Speed Six from for $405 OTD a few months ago! Yes, I am bragging a bit, sorry ; ).

There seem to have been quite a few good deals for SP101s on the auction sites within the last month or so. I picked up a like new .357 3 1/16" for $350 plus $30 shipping, and I let a like new .327 slip away for $325. Several others have sold in the $325 to $385 range as well. I wonder if the plastic......sorry, I mean polymer.....revolver craze is starting to take a toll on used SP101 prices.

Yes there are good deals on auction and mail order, but the problem is shipping fee's FFL transfer fee's and then sale tax.

My area really sucks dealers around here charge about $50+ transfer, the state makes you pay sales tax no matter where it came from at the rate of 9.5% so add about $100+ and then shipping the good deal is gone.

Unless things have changed since I had my FFL there is no way a dealer pays under $300.00 back then if you made 20% you were doing good.
