SP101 Price Question

I have a nice 3" SP101 that I have done some smithing on. I have completely polished every important part of the action and installed wolf springs and a Hogue Monogrip. Also, to sharpen up the sight picture I filed into the front sight creating a vertical surface.....like a "Partridge", then put hot pink paint on it. The trigger is so smooth in double action that most people feel that there is no point to even shoot it in single action mode. Then, the single action trigger breaks like thin glass. I am not saying all of this to brag, just to pose a question.... Would this gun be worth 500-600 dollars? In the time I have had it, I have carried it every day but only shot about 300-400 rounds through it total....almost all being Federal 158 JSP's. I have killed six White Tail deer with it as well.

The reason I ask is that I am eyeing a Kimber compact stainless but would have to sell this gun to finance it as I am gun budget poor! I don't want to post an ad for sale, and be ridiculous, but I feel that it is MUCH better than a spanking new gun just like it....anyone who might compare a stock SP101 to it would attest to that. I would really need to sell it for close to 600 bucks to make my money work out. My cousin is wanting me to do the same treatment to his two GP100's. Please tell me if I am "reasonable" or "wishful". Thanks in advance.

Depends on your potential buyer. Some will be really excited by the modifications, some wouldn't touch it with a 10 foot pole.

Once something is modified or customized ....... coin toss.

JMO, look on gun broker and see what the used guns are selling for.

That will give you a good starting point.

I would think $500 is probably doable on a private sale. I was looking at one last week about like yours. A 3" Sp101 357 with a trigger job, and some slicking up internally. I think it was an 04 production date. Locked up like a Bank Vault on all 5 holes. My dealer had $489 on it, and sold it today.
You may have done enough work on it to be worth $600. You would just have to find someone looking for one that was already sliced up, and willing to pay for your work.

I don't know how others feel, but to me a gun is worth less after a home trigger job than before.

OTOH, SP101s of any flavor are selling for insane money right now on the auction sights.

Thanks guys. I am going to spend some time on the auction sights..... and seee if I can muster the nerve to sell it. I do have a sentimental attachment to it as well. Thanks again for your opinion s.

Yup, stock 3" versions are selling in the $600s right now on Gunbroker. This may be the best time on auction websites to get the value back in your investment. People are paying ridiculous prices.

It's not a revolver but I saw a standard 9mm Hi Point Carbine with a winning bid of $600 right now. There is no way that gun is worth that much and I love the one I have that I use as a fun plinker.

Yep. I put it it here and armslist for 600. If I was on the buying end, I'd be skeptical and want to pay 450 ish. Oh well, if it doesn't sell I will not shed a tear because I love it. I am just trying to take an opportunity for a serious upgrade. Thanks for all the good advice.

I saw an auction on Gunbroker for a hard to find 4" SP101 357 that went for $1103.99!

Just a wee bit over the MSRP of $699.

I am a total Ruger fanboy but there is no way that gun is worth $1103.99
