SP101 issue

My sp101 has always functioned perfectly in both single and double action. Recently the gun will, at times lock up when trying to cock the hammer for single action. The hammer wont move more than about a 1/4" I've had it apart a dozen times and see absolutely nothing wrong. Anyone have a possible suggestion as to what it may be? I really am at a loss.

TJ, will it lock up when loaded or unloaded also? When it locks up, can you see if the cylinder bolt that engages the cylinder notches is still in the notch?

Is the transfer bar hitting the firing pin? Tip the gun down and watch the transfer bar as you cock the gun. Sometimes the little spring and plunger that pushes the transfer bar out of the way gets gunked-up. Spray with cleaner or take apart and clean. :shock: :shock:

Happens loaded and unloaded only when manually attempting to cock to single action. Flawless in double action. The cylinder stop will go part way down, never enough to disengage the cylinder. The gun has been apart a dozen times, clean as a whistle everywhere. The transfer bar is not causing the problem.
I can probably disassemble and reassemble the gun blindfolded at this point. I have broken down every piece of the gun, trigger assy included. It worked in both single and double action for months before this issue crept up. I was thinking of replacing both small springs on the pawl and the cylinder stop. The I have a hunch the pawl spring is hanging up and causing the issue. Cheap enough to try I figure.

Mine does the same, one chamber only. Not a safe queen but low mileage. Just started doing this or I just started to notice this. Looks like the cylinder bolt does not drop down enough, but just one chamber. DA is no issue on any chamber.

Mine isnt on one particular chamber. It appears to be random. Cylinder stop/bolt doesnt drop down enough. I did discover tonight , that if I cock the hammer fast, it doesnt happen. Slow deliberate cock of the hammer does hang up, but again not always. I did order a few new springs, and a new cylinder latch. Wont get them for a few weeks according to the ruger customer service rep. No big deal, as I'm off to Las Vegas for the next 9 days. Will follow up when I have some results.

Problem fixed. I replaced the original trigger plunger (p/n kh03200) Works perfectly all the time now. The new part from Ruger appears slightly different from the one that was in the gun. Very happy camper now.
