After almost a year my beautiful custom straight back set arrived today from http://www.ml-knives.com/ and I couldn't be more please! They were definitely worth the wait. Matt did a great job making exactly what I asked for.

The larger knife is a beast. I think it could handle just about anything from making kindling for the camp fire or chopping down saplings to slicing a turkey for Thanksgiving dinner. It has a 5" inch handle and the blade is just over 8 1/2" inches with a 3/16" thick spine. The blade is about 2" inches at the widest point. The smaller knife will be a great companion knife to the larger one and will also be great for general every day tasks. It is just over 6 1/2" inches with a 3 1/2" inch handle and 1/8" thick spine. The blade on it is about 1 3/8" inch at the widest point. Both have a nice belly to them so they should make great slicers. The handles are antique Hickory and both feel great in hand. I really love the vintage look of these two. I can't wait to get out and put them to use.

Wow! Those are great! I think I like the small one best probably because it's so different.

I have a couple knives on order also. One will be a Christmas present for the boss. But I'll probably have to order a small knife like yours next. You know after using these knives in the kitchen, they are fast becoming my go-to knife. The one I reach for first. They are just so nice and heavy.

Thanks for the pictures.

Thanks,

My wife has a custom kitchen knife from Matt and it is about the only knife she uses in the kitchen (Same goes for me). She pretty much uses it daily.

Given Matt's turn around, I feel like I need to keep a knife on order. I just ordered another custom from him not long ago.

Matt usually posts a knife every few days on his available page. Usually smaller to medium sized knives. I have seen him post quite a few similar to my smaller one. You pretty much have to keep the page up and refresh it a few times a day to catch one in stock as they sell quickly but he usually posts two to three a week.
