A couple of custom Old Models

Sharing photos of a couple of old model Blackhawks which I've come to own over the years. I didn't do any of the work and these are "as bought" from other forum members some years ago. Perhaps the previous owners will chime in here with some details.

Super Blackhawk - I was told J. Gallagher did the work:



And a Flattop old model 45 - I believe Alan Harton did the work on this one.



I've enjoyed owning them - I thought they were great when I bought them and still think they are "keepers!"

Those look like a couple of keepers to me! I like the short barreled revolvers. I don't own anything bigger than a .41. I see alot of nice big bores on the Forum, but at this point I am not venturing into a new caliber. No components and not setup to reload for them. Oh, how do the shoot? Bet they are also good shooters!

They are fun to shoot. I haven’t shot them for accuracy so can’t give a report on that but great quality; tight actions on both.

I'll add another one - a .45 that J. Gallagher did on a Blackhawk Super frame. I took the photos with the "shooter" grips; the stags it normally wears really show it off but alas I don't have those photos...

A couple of 44 flattops shortened to 4 5/8" and rechambered to 45 Colt by Hamilton Bowen. Both are case hardened with one by Turnbull and the other unknown. SK mammoth ivory grips to finish them off.

I built a 5.5" 44 Special old model in a class that John Gallagher taught in North Carolina. I built a masterpiece with his expert teaching. I had a very good knowledge of revolver smithing before the class as I had taken several classes under Hamilton Bowen and the wonderful Ron Power but I learned a great bit more from John. John Gallagher, John Linebaugh, Eddie Janis and Ron Power's passing have all been a great loss to the Gunsmithing community.

I was expecting you to jump in here - let’s see some! In fact I’m pretty sure one of the above might have come from your proximity?!

I only have one other true custom Ruger and it's my New Model 41 mag. It started life as a Blue gun and I sent it off to Metalife to have it hard chromed. From there it has had a lot of internal upgrades as well as the custom Walnut grip panels. This one has the nicest trigger of any single action I own. I have shot this one ALOT over the years.

My 7 1/2” .44 with steel backstrap and trigger guard from Ron Power, the blue has gone a bit “plum” in places.

Two from David Clements started out as 5 1/2 inches. I like the “squared” look of the shorty, so now they are 5 inches and the erh allows a longer throw for easier extraction. Color case is a dual cylinder .45 and the blue a .44.
