Snake bites: Caution--graphic

Hi,

Little did I know when I started the day that I would soon encounter a potentially deadly snake, let alone be bitten by it! But things happen, and, thankfully, I survived. Of course, those of you who've encountered the same creature know you'll never be the same again! (You may need to right click the pictures and click "View image" for the whole picture.)

We were at an annual Mustang show held at a big Ford dealer's in Orange County (SoCal) and one of the owner's buddies figured he'd break the monotony of too many Mustangs by bringing this beauty along. It's one of forty "1965" Shelby 427 Cobras built by Shelby American in Las Vegas in 2002 to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the marque. This is the only Cobra of any variant I've ever seen that was finished in polished aluminum (the stripes are brushed.) I haven't decided if the bite's fatal, but I'm sure the after effects will linger for quite some time!

Very nice. I love polished aluminum epically on airplanes.
But what would it look like after a day at the SoCal beach and the salt air?????? Bring it to the Texas Gulf Coast and it would stay shiny for maybe a week and corrode to the frame in a year. That is why we have to paint aluminum planes in this area. :wink:

By the way I don't think there is a cure for a Cobra bite.
My neighbor was building a 351 Cobra and I thought about building one many years ago. Have liked them from the first time I saw one at a Ford Dealer in the 60s

You might appreciate a little accessory seen on this "kit car" last month:

One of the great things about the "fakes" is you can take 'em out and drive 'em without all the worry! You don't have to spend six or even seven figures for a real one that looks as nice. Add that a lot of them have running gear and chassis improvements Carroll himself could only dream about when he put the first ones together!

And I think Jim's right: the bite is just as deadly...

I'll bet that beauty arrived in an air conditioned, humidity controlled trailer and was pushed into position. I doubt it ever gets driven and it's soul is slowly rotting away.
