Smith and Wesson 29 ?

Had an old friend who can't shoot any more (bad eyes , can't here , tough time getting around ) give me a S&W 29-5 .
5 7/8" barrel chrome finish half lug . Tried to find some info. and keep coming up empty .
The serial # is BFF39** . No scratches but has been shot .
Any info. or value would be helpful .
Said he wouldn't take any $ but i'm going to buy him something really nice .(30 yrs.of friendship )

It should date to 1990. It's probably a 6" bbl. not a 5 7/8". It's measured from the front of the cylinder to the end of of the barrel. It's nickel not chrome. Value? It's still one of S&W's nicer M-29's before they went to MIM and then the lock. Excellent condition? I don't know, maybe $650+, more if it has the box and docs.

sounds like a nice gun, those may have come in a one piece, fold up box or in a blue plastic case.................
