last one we saw at the show was sold for $575 and thought that was a pretty good deal....NICE gun........if new in box ( case?) bet it would push $600 or better.........did I say NICE gun??

then you can add another $100 plus, not so much if its the 45 acp, but still a "sought after" model, the 3 inch ones ended in 1991....they book out higher, but takes a 'special " buyer...we liked the "other" more (686)

It seemed to me later than 1991 Smith made a run of 3" full underlug barreled models in .44 mag, .45 Colt and maybe .45 ACP for a distributor as I recall looking at one in a gun shop around 2000 or maybe a bit later. I think they may have made 250 in each of the calibers. Somebody else probably knows more about these.

I really like the 3" N frames. I don't know what they go for today, what I consider a good price on a gun just sits right now. I wish I had more money. That being said if they just sit apparently that is no longer the price. Not too long ago I saw them go in the $500-$600 range. Then they went up, but Lots of good deals aren't even moving right now. If you have the wood grips and box I think it would be a sad thing if that gun didn't go at least $600. In some parts of the country or the right buyer might go as high as $800. It's not always easy to find those guys but if you are going to it would be a piece like that. But then I haven't seen it yet, might have had the wood grips robbed and maybe no box, so hard to say. Is that a Lew Horton gun or who was the distributor?

I sold a 625-3 .45 ACP 3" about a year ago on Gunbroker for $1450!! Another one at the same time sold a day after mine for $1750!! It was like new in the box though, and mine was about 96% in the box. As long as they don't have the lock and the dreaded MIM hammer & trigger, the 625 3" guns are worth a mint! Here is the one I kept:

Here is my collection of 3" N frames (all pre lock & pre MIM). The two in the middle are L frames, one .44 special, one .357.

Lew Horton over a period of several years repeatedly had smith build the 3" guns with rounded buts. They first started out with 44 specials, then came out with a 44 mag version. Then they went on to produce them in stainless. Later on in 44 special , 44 mag and 45 colt.

The first guns sold in the $350 range, and they have increased vastly since them. Had one each in the SS 44 special and mag, one traded and latter stolen.

Now have one in 44 mag, and its my conceal carry gun, fitted with CT grips. They were the Lipsey's equivalent to S&W

Dad has a 3" 44 Mag just like the one pictured at 8 o'clock with the box and goodies. It doesn't have LEW in the serial number, so is it a regular production?
