Can the primer pocket be opened up on these for the standard large primer?
When I go through my brass I find these mostly from other friends who shoot them.
When I ever by new ammo I check for the large primer cases.

If these guys say that you can, then I'll take their word for it. But as mentioned, it's just not worth it. Just load them with the proper primers. I have a bunch of the sp cases laying around just in case I need them.

Not worth the trouble, unless switching your priming tool from large primer to small primer is problematic.

FWIW; As an experiment I reloaded about 200 rounds of 45 ACP, 100 with small primed brass, 100 with large primed brass, with 3 different bullets/loads (200 gr. SWC, 225 gr. LRN, 230 FMJ w/Bullseye). I shot them in my RIA 1911 and my Ruger P90 over my chrony and recorded the results with group size included. The only variation was me. If I was having a good day, all groups shrunk. Some loads/powder charges showed large low to high velocity swings, but wasn't much if any different from small or large primers. The results were so boring, I recorded them, put them in my binder but haven't reread them in 6 months...

Separating them can be a pain if they get mixed at the range. I mark the case head
with a red sharpie simplifies things big time. ps

Was just curious if it would work. Yes a pain when you catch a couple in the mix.

I do hang on to the small primer brass I run across. I might need to load some .45 and only have SPPs on hand. Also, if/when another shortage arrives, I might have trouble finding LPPs.

Limited wallet fill.

I do have a lot more, right now, than I did last go round.

Last time, I was just getting into reloading and had nothing. Right now, I have a year plus of everything except bullets. I do have the capability of making my own bullets, if need be.

Keep 'em for a rainy day. I've got a thousand or so of .45 ACP SPP and they work fine when you load them.

Back when I only had one metallic progressive press and had to change from SPP to LPP I'd get lazy sometimes after loading 9MM and .380 ACP and load up a batch of .45 ACP SPP. Now I've got 2 progressive presses, one for SPP and one for LPP, I just keep the SPP .45s for a rainy day.
