Single Six transfer bar problem

I have a 1967 vintage Single Six I purchased used some years ago (missing the magnum cylinder of course). I have a problem with the later installed transfer bar safety coming straight up when the hammer is cocked and ramming into the bottom of the firing pin.

Is this something that I can fix relatively simply? Perhaps by replacing a spring? Or, should I see if Ruger will fix it? I don't really want to go to the hassle of mailing the gun to them. Finally, should I just try to find original parts and eliminate the transfer bar? I have a 1973 Super Blackhawk that has not had the transfer bar retofitted and I don't have any problems with that at all.

TIA,
Matt

Let's address the first problem: the transfer bar is contacting the firing pin. The "cylinder pin" (commonly referred to as the "base pin" when talking about Ruger revolvers) should have a spring loaded plunger that contacts the transfer bar and pushes it out of the way of the firing pin. It appears to me that the "original" base pin is in the gun but so is the transfer bar, resulting in a "bind". You need a base pin that has the spring loaded "tip".

I'm assuming the Single-Six has the "Transfer Bar" styled hammer. If it doesn't then you need to acquire the "original" lockwork. Below is a pic of a Bearcat with both styles of "lockwork" shown. Note the two different styled "base pins" and the presence of the transfer bar in ONLY the "new style" lockwork.

So, you can probably acquire the proper cylinder pin from a Ruger Forum member for a very fair price, along with the other required parts. As you mentioned, you could round up the "pre-transfer bar" parts and end up being a "happy camper". :D

If it has the plunger, which it should, considering it has the transfer bar, check to make sure that the plunger isn't gummed up and sticking in the base pin. If it is clean it up and try to free it up.
