I've been accumulating Rugers for years but just getting into the '50s single sixes. Does anyone know what period or serial number range one might find an eagle marked barrel?
And a related question, when did the barrel address move from the top to the left side on the single six 3 screw models?

Thanks,

The eagle rollmarked barrel was only used on the 6-1/2" fixed sight single-sixes, the batch of guns marked .22 Win RF Mag. on the left side of the cylinder frame (but...when Ruger finally started using the eagle rollmark on the barrel, they still didn't rollmark all of their Mag. marked guns with the eagle...probably employee oversight).
Ruger marked the barrels with the eagle on these guns because the rollmark on the left side of the frame was too long...coulnd't squeeze an eagle at the end.
The change in rollmark location happened when the New Models came out.

Chet,

Thanks very much. The reason I asked was I just picked up this barrel:

Seller says it's not been cut and the front sight looks like an original OM. I'll be able to verify better when I get it but it looks like an eagle barrel with rollmark on left side.

Thx,

I'm not sure what that barrel came off of. See picture below. My eagle barrel has a circle around the eagle and a "R" in a circle to the right of the eagle. Mine also has U.S.A. after the Southport Conn. The one that you show has none of this???

street,
Thanks for the great picture. This is getting more and more interesting. None of my light weight or other 3 screw single sixes have an eagle but they all have U.S.A. I'm curious to see it in person. Will post when I do.

I just figured out what that barrel is. IT'S A BEARCAT BARREL!!!   Go to this link and check out to picture of the Bearcat barrel about half way down the page. Mr Hamm has a very good picture of it. http://www.gunblast.com/Hamm_Bearcat.htm
