August 19, 2022 – Sturm, Ruger & Company, Inc., reported a data breach after the company was targeted in a recent cybersecurity attack. As a result of the breach, the first and last name, shipping address, email address, payment card number, expiration date, security code, billing address, gift certificate number (if applicable), description of the product purchased, price, and quantity of certain individuals was compromised. On August 18, 2022, Sturm, Ruger & Company, Inc., sent out data breach letters to those individuals whose information was affected by the breach.

Wow. Your mail delivery must be quicker than mine. I wouldn't expect to receive an August 18, 2022 letter until late September at the earliest.

I'm not sure if I've bought anything in the last couple years from them. I might have. But I sure wouldn't trust an email that told me of some data theft.

I have bought from them recently so I expect a letter oulining everything. A month or so ago I got (through USPS mail) a letter from Numrich, they had a breach also and explained what happened and what to do to mitigate any problems.

Most companies I have had that type of notice from send a mailed letter sometime after the fact informing you about the breech and telling how to monitor your financial accounts that could have been compromised.

Thanks for posting. Fact that no one seems to have tried to use the information for 2 years makes you wonder who or what entity gathered the information. Since apparently not using it to steal money, what are they getting out of it?

Unless it's pretty sophisticated malware (like government-sponsored kind), you'd think Freestyle would be checking for that and using protective software.

Just opened my letter. Seems they’ve done everything they’re supposed to. As usual, the info wasn’t stolen directly from Ruger but rather from their processing company.

Got my letter in the mail today. Read through it and I wonder what happens if/when I sign up for the years worth of "protection"? Will I then be inundated with letters (or bills) to keep the "protection" going "to help protect my accounts from being hacked/used". Any guesses how the law offices that sent the letter are affiliated with the "protectors"?

Well, I guess I spoke too soon. My letter arrived today.

I find it interesting that the company that had the data breech,, found out about it in February, yet,, didn't notify Ruger until August.

I think you are safe if you didn't get a letter. But more importantly, you are safe if you didn't make an online purchase directly from Ruger between 9/18/20 and 2/3/22.

Unfortunately, I did make a purchase, and I received the letter stating that my full name, email, bank card number, expiry date, authorization number, home address, items I purchased, and quantity have been accessed by "unauthorized parties."

So now I know that someone or people knows where I live and what I own. This is what we get for shopping online. Lesson learned.

I could not find anything on Ruger's site about this, if there was anything going on, I'm sure there would be!

Maybe the goal of those that obtained your information IS NOT your money.

Maybe the breach was orchestrated by a governmental agency to identify those owning Ruger (the largest gun manufacturer in the USA) products to add to their enemies list. Or to provide to ANTIFA or BLM or other terrorist organizations that serve the central government.

Just thinking out loud here. People that buy items direct from Ruger are certainly Ruger owners……………….
