I rebuilt my shooting range today. When we had the berm built a year ago I did a quick and dirty and it's been there the whole time. I used T-posts and mild steel plates that were severely undersized for the beatings i was subjecting them to.
Two weeks ago I hired a sheet metal shop to cut some steel targets with their plasma cutter and they finished up this week. So i took a break from hunting today and hung them up. I used some scrap lumber i had on the place so other than the targets the range didn't cost me anything but time. I buried 4x4 posts 16" in the ground and put some back supports to help with the targts when they get to swinging. I use electric fence wire to hang the targets because it's cheap to repair (i have lots of it on hand) and pretty durable unless it takes a direct hit. I placed a railroad tie in front of the big targets to reduce the amount they will swing.
Animal targets are regulation size for IHMSA big bore that have been modified to be hung. I prefer a hanging target so i dont have to go down range every few shots and stand them up. The gongs are 8" and 12", with one 12" being a "bulls eye" style with the center cut out and a smaller gong behind it. I also made provision for a board i can staple a target to if i want to do work on paper for sight in, etc. Berm is only about 5' tall but i hung the targets low so as to not go over the top of it. I'm happy with how it turned out. Just hope it looks as good after 2000+ rounds.

So i then backed off to my 50 yard table and fired a few rounds with my OM 357 mag and my 357 Max. I'm gonna enjoy this.
