She got a little excited,,,,

I don't mind black snakes being around. I try to leave the constrictors alone. I haven't had to deal with a copperhead for a couple of years or so. They aren't particularly aggressive but I have kids around so I eliminate them.

I am another one that loves snakes, don't care too much for venomous ones too near the house, or worse in the house, but the harmless vermin eats....all are welcome by us! It can be a surprise to come across one in the bathroom at 2:00 am but I just tossed that one outside to go on being a happy little snake. :)

I need more snakes. I have a black snake living under my front step. But he's tiny, looks like 3 foot. My friend has a pool with a changing room. There is a room next to the changing area that has the pump and other stuff. It heats the rocks and attracts some pretty long black snakes. 6 footers are common. I grab them and gently unwrap them from around the warm pipes. They usually wrap around my arm pretty good. Sucks when they poo on you though. I bring them home and release them out back...to hopefully help me with my chipmunk infestation which is tearing up my septic sand mound. Moles also. I love snakes. Even the now and then visit from a Timber Rattler or Copperhead. I usually just stay out of their way. I gave up eating snake years ago.

I don't mind spiders but Black Widows gave me the willies back in California. They were EVERYWHERE. Extremely rare here. Brown Recluse are around but don't see them too often....the coolest are the Wolf spiders! They get big. Look like skinny Tarantulas. On hot humid nights you can see their eyes reflecting off the hanging deck lights all over the grass. Love that.

I grew up killing all snakes.... probably got to do with all that protestant teaching every Sunday. Then at some point I realized the rat snakes were just doing their job and limited it to the poisonous ones if I could tell.... now I will on occasion take out a copperhead, we have a good many here. But the last one was actually in the house and I just took it out and let it go... just did not feel like killing anything that day. My brother who lives on the farm down home is always relocating timber rattlers and such.

My only problem with snakes is I will not share my living or work space with them.

Couple months after moving to northern AZ, had a diamondback under the rocker on the patio. About 3 ft. Shovel took care of it. Started packing a ruger lcrx with shot after that for all my outdoor chores.
Have to say I prefer rattlers to our present copperheads. At least rattlers are polite enough to let you know you are too close. And spiders! I think there are 500 different types of spiders and 506 of them live in SC!
Only 3 spiders have fangs big enough to penetrate human skin.
gramps

NOTHING, creeps me out more than a snake😱😨😱
If ever see one that big..............DOA.
Why, oh why, did I open this thread!!!
I won't sleep tonight
I agree with you JAYDAWG! I have an extreme dislike of snakes.
Almost 40 years ago I was running some piping for a dental office in a crawlspace when a snake slithered in my coveralls. There wasn't room enough for both of us in those coveralls and I let the snake keep them. I came out of that crawlspace like I was on fire and wouldn't go back in until the dentist got an exterminator to get rid of the snakes.
My boss was not happy with me but I told her if she was so interested in getting that job finished she could do it herself. She then had to tell the dentist that I wouldn't complete the job until the snakes were gone

I saw a dandy snake crossing the road between wetlands this evening. Don't know what kind of snake it was BUT it reached 1/3 the width of the county road (16'+) and was quite obvious from 100 yards away. I was busy and didn't have time to check it out.

We had a few rats coming out of the watery wooded area behind us. I staked down a rat trap to catch them. This cottonmouth got caught in it. We have little garter snakes show up in the flower beds. Two days ago one was in the garage. Wife was not in a good mode when she saw it. I just chased it out.

Unless it's a Brother Snake, Garter, or Green snake it's swiftly DOA.
I had a healthy 3-1/2' copperhead about the diameter of my upper arm,(biggest I've ever seen) chase me out of a creek bed once on the hunting property, during a pre season weed eat/work/ scouting weekend.
The Mossberg I keep behind the seat of the truck made the woods a safer place that day.
And I figured the hawks could take up his slack.
And since he owed me a new pair of Fruit of the Looms.....
They can swim very fast, by the way.

I got an urgent call, about a snake. Nothing unusual for me.

But the lady was quite insistent that I immediately come & remove it. Apparently it had discovered the bird nest under the eve of her house, and was after the birds or eggs.
Yes, it was a black snake.
And while it was climbing around the window framework,, it was being observed by one of her cats,, inside the house,, in a basket casually resting & watching things.
Of course,, I immediately responded, got to the snake, gently captured it, to be relocated well away from the lady's house.

Here's a picture of it & the cat.

Thas a fat un!

I think I told this before on another thread, but oh well, here goes. I grew up on a farm in southern Iowa back in the 50's. My Grand dad hated snakes and we had a farm dog that was very good at killing them. Ol Spot would dart in and grab them behind their head and a couple of violent shakes with his head and they were a dead snake. Well one day Grand dad was walking the gravel road by the house and he spied a big bull snake, so he yelled at Spot to get him. Well, ol Spot dashed in and got him by the neck and gave him some violent shakes and then let him fly. The bull snake flew through the air and wrapped around Grand dads neck! Oh boy, that was something to watch, I didn't know Grand dad could run that fast! :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:
