I don't rant much, so give me some slack on this.

Rant begins:

Given all the BS going on in the world these days, I'm just about to the point where I don't give a fat rat's patoot about much of anything that goes on outside my property lines. With some local exceptions.

I don't care if Ferguson or St. Louis or Wash DC or NYC goes up in flames at noon tomorrow. I don't give damn which NFL player is banging somebody else's old lady, which lying political sob is on the news, or which Hollywood slut is showing off her ass.

I don't care which bunch of ragheads kills some other bunch of ragheads, or what the Pope says about it.

I do care about my immediate neighbors and kin. I do care about keeping my tools sharp, loaded, and handy. And I care about the quality of my Kentucky Sour Mash Bourbon. That's about it.

The rest of the world can go pound sand.

Genny There are times when I agree with you on those points 100%. Right now I would add that I care about global warming. I have been all but snowed in for the last four days with temps between -10 and +20. I am praying for that global warming.

In the unlikely event that you're ever in San Francisco, your rant just earned you a drink or two at the Cliff House. Being right on the rocks over the Pacific Ocean, you can look down and watch the natives pounding sand without their even knowing it, so to speak.

I don't know if they have Blanton's- could find out- but they do have good Rye, which is my favorite.

Been to San Francisco many times. On business, mostly. Actually graduated from Hayward HS in '61 . Last time was in '97 for a technology show & conference at Moscone Center. My wife had a lot more fun than I did. Probably won't ever be out there again, but the Rye is tempting. :mrgreen:

No really I approve your rant and is exactly the way I feel. I am so tired of all the "new Breed" whiners I just want to give them cheese to go with it and go the H*^#@* away from me.

Actually Gunny, I think many folks agree with you on principal. The politicians, the media talking heads, the hand wringers, the racists, the doomsday predictors, & others all push crap on us that doesn't affect us as much as they make it seem.
Ferguson, it seems is being run by the street people no matter who was right or wrong. To them it doesn't matter that the only folks who can qualify to become LEO's are white, they look at as racist. They conveniently ignore other cases where a black cop gets involved with a white suspect. They are using the Ferguson incident as a way to claim racism by white people, yet from all I see, they are the racists. I think the national politics & all the racist talking heads, (Jackson, Sharpton etc) all need to butt out. Let the investigation go forward w/o ANY media or political influence & see what the facts are BEFORE making any public statements.

Pro athletes, movie stars, or other public figures all get a lot of exposure when they do bad or immoral things. It USED to be if you were a public figure, and you did anything out of line that got to the public eye, you were blackballed by the public. Now, it's a badge of honor to get publicity about your arrests, infidelity, etc. We need to go back to the attitude that if you are a public figure, you MUST act like a responsible adult & NOT do things to tarnish a good image. If you do, then you get fired from your high profile "job" & lose all you could get or do.

The ragheads who are fighting each other,,,, heck they have been doing that for centuries. I say let them keep at it until one side or the other wins & then decide if we want to do any business with them. I'm amazed at how many Americans willingly go to these other countries to do whatever, and find themselves captives. If I was stupid enough to go to another country & stick my nose in their business, I shouldn't expect my country to get involved over my stupidity. If I get beheaded, well, I could have prevented it by staying in America.

The same general idea can apply to many other situations we find ourselves in. We, as Americans need to get out of the business of trying to save the world. We need to save our own, here at home first.
Just last night, a Vet buddy & I (as well as Miss Penny) went to Golden Corral for their annual Veterans Appreciation night. (Golden Corral usually does it on Veterans Day, but ours had it last night instead. Not sure why.) Anyway, due to the large crowd, you are usually seated with "strangers" at the table. There were 2 Vets at our table, who I noticed didn't fit the normal family type crowd. Both were pleasant, & after one guy finished, he told the other guy, "see you on the bus." I had noticed outside a few mini-buses from a few churches & the VA Center. After the second guy left, Miss Penny commented; "Those guys are likely homeless by the way they ate. It was as if this was their first good meal in a long time."
If this was true, this is the type of thing we need to fix HERE before worrying about ANY other country, ANY other "world crisis," or whatever.

Like most, I too feel the world can go "pound sand" when we need to fix things here first.

And, lastly, even though I'm more of a Tennessee Whiskey guy, a good Ky bourbon is just fine by me.

The media no longer reports the news, they want instigate and manipulate it for their own ends. They gone beyond stirring the pot. To add a bit to Contender's story; I was at the VA Eye clinic the other day, when I arrived there was a Vet standing outside with a back pack that appeared to be stuffed full. He was talking with a woman about her husband and bummed a cigarette from her. I went in and was there for about an hour and when I came out he was still there. I stopped to talk with him and found that he was a 'Nam vet divorced and down on his luck. His contact in one of the Vet Affairs office knowing that he was homeless had given him the surplus back pack (really a nice piece of equipment currently being used in Afghanistan and other areas) along with a surplus sleeping bag, canteen, MRE's, mess kit and some clean socks and City bus passes) While talking with him he bummed another cigarette from another person. I also discovered that he was broke until near the end of the month when his SS check arrived. He was going to go to a homeless shelter for his evening meal. He was waiting for the VA bus to get back to the Main hospital area where there is a city bus terminal nearby. I offered to drive him over and drop him off at the bus station
so he wouldn't have to wait. When I dropped him off, I dug in my wallet and gave him $6.00 so he wouldn't have to bum smokes for a while. I know smoking is bad, but; If I'd been able, I would have given him more because he didn't strike as a alcoholic.
I keep hoping to run across him again to see how he's doing.

While my favorite sour mash maker from western Ky has gone on to his reward, I think I could find a suitable, though slightly inferior, medicinal elixir with which to whet our whistles, should you decide to pass through east central MO.

All we would need for a proper tasting session would be my buddy Chuck, who retired out of Beaufort a few years back. I'd wager that within a short period of time we could solve the majority of the world's problems to our mutual satisfaction! 8)

Well said Gunny! The truly important things in life are generally ignored by the news media. Good deeds and happenings do not sell advertisements. Family and friends are MUCH more important than the size of Kim Kardasian's butt or who got fired for swatting his kid with a stick. Though I am not now a drinking man, I at one time did appreciate a good sour mash. Gotta go now and sharpen some knives.
