I did a search on Ruger's home page. I entered the serial number of my pistol 30-55784. They indicated "no record" of this number. I have
owned it since 1972.

Old models won't be on there because Ruger didn't start computerizing records until the late 1980s. General ranges per year are posted though. Probably manufactured in 1970.

I'm trying to find out value. It's tight and shows some holster wear. It's 6 1/2" 357 original grips. I don't have
a picture of the pistol right now. My son has the gun.

Like WMG said, looks like 1970. The SN below is approximately the first shipped in that year.

As noted, details are important when it comes to values. A 1970, .357, 6-1/2" barreled gun is of a high production type.
Assuming it doesn't have a 9mm cylinder with it, is not converted to the transfer bar safety, has no box, no manual, just the gun in 95% condition will be $550 +/- $50 regionally. Lower condition = less value and prices drop fast with heavier wear. Rocky Mountain states generally trend toward higher demand/value for unconverted old models in nice condition.
Added it to Bob's List. It falls right in the midst of a bazillion such guns from 1970.

Without a pic it's hard to say but it would sell for $600 in DFW unless there's something really wrong... like safety conversion or damage.
